One of our favorite campgrounds has free streaming....

Actually they have very very limited Streaming via Satellite and zero cell phone coverage but that's ok with us.

Bingo. The demand (even to half of the folks in just this thread) will very soon require them to adjust to their new customer base.

Interestingly enough, the place I'm at now offers free "basic" internet and paid "high speed" internet.

I am wary of "Tengo" and "high speed" being in the same sentence. I get decent performance out of my hotspot. I may order it and compare the two. We'll see.

I do like that option. I joke a lot about this but there are times high speed would be nice and I think paying for it as a separate charge is better than raising overall site rates.

I am always willing to pay if it is a quality service.

X5 - it is spendy BUT it is THE answer to your WIFI issues. Better yet, it will pull in a weak WIFI signal from as far away as 5000FT (Vendor claims 2 miles but in practical use that has to be LOS)

We visited a XLR that was parked out by the racetrack at Goshen and they had a WIFI Ranger and had zero problems connecting. They were even streaming video in the evenings (they were on the $10 vendor WIFI)

Anyway, that convinced me - whe we get our new rig, a WIFI Ranger will be installed at the dealership before we take delivery!

We were down on the eastern shore of Md. last month, small family CG. There was a strong Verizon signal but nothing else, no wifi, no CATV. So to check e-mail and bank deposits I used my cell as a 'HOT SPOT'. Didn't know it was also referred to as MiFi. Who knew.

I would pay $3 a night to stream movies for my boy. If we go over our data plan its $10 a gig.

My solution for now will be to find a MacBook (all my videos are in iTunes) and connect it to a AppleTV box. I should be able to store about half my movies on the MacBook. Predownload them before we leave and then just stream them over a local network.

If you're open to other ideas, look at the Wifi hard drive that I mentioned and Rokus. Could be a cheaper solution.

It's not THE answer - it is "AN" answer. There are lots of wifi boosting products out there. All with differing levels of setup, price points, and capabilities. I know people who swear by the Ubiquiti. And, I know there are others.

I agree with Doug. I made my own with similar parts. I do notice an improvement at places like Normandy Farms, but there is only so much bandwidth available for 100s of sites.

As mentioned elsewhere, the problem is not always signal strength. At times, yes, but where we're at right now I gave full strength signal from multiple access points and still no internet due yo number of current users, etc. Putting more drains in a sink won't make it fill with water any faster, you need more faucets. Bandwidth is the issue.

This is what we use:
Wireless Plus: Mobile Storage To Stream Your Media| Seagate

You can simultaneously stream video to 3 *seperate* devices at a time. If you happen to have a Apple TV hooked to your RV TV, you can use AirPlay from your iPhone/iPad to stream the video to your TV.
2TB WIFI Drive (that also acts as a WIFI hub for a single WIFI POP): $199.00
AppleTV $69
Assuming you have a iPhone and/or Ipad already, WIFI streaming solution for under $270

A trick that I just learned... my kids want their internet and media content when they're in the truck. Adding the WifiRanger boosts the signal of both of those things so I can now leave everything installed in the camper vs. having to move the wifi hotspot and media drive to the truck each time we travel (and back again to the camper when we get where we are going).

Thats a good point. In my case I would just use the builtin Wifi that comes with the drive. I bet I could put it in the master bedroom over the bed of the truck and the range would reach the backseat for the boy.

That's all that I did up until this past Monday when I had my wifi booster installed.

It's a lot of interference between the two with the camper walls and truck and all. But, it *could* work. At home, before we left, I would use the drive in our kitchen with me a room away in the bedroom.

I can definitely say that it did NOT work from the truck with the hard drive back in the camper's kitchen. But that's a fifth wheel, bedroom, and bathroom in the way. (Sabre 36QBOK.)

Yea, thats askin a bit much. I'll put it as far forward as I can and test... otherwise its small enough I'd just put it in the center console of the truck.

I won't buy it till the spring though, the boy is done camping for the year. The wife and I are going out for our anniversary this weekend and thats going to be the end of our season.

Putting it in the center console was exactly what we did. It fit well there and we even have a 12v outlet in it.

The only thing I wish Seagate did better with their app is the ability to remotely build a play list. For my son, we hang the iPad from the headrest so that he can't touch it. The problem is when he wants to watch a bunch of 6 minute cartoons. It's just a hassle all around.

Never seen an open wifi network with enough speed to stream video. Forget it!
