Wiring led strip correctly.

Ive been lurking the forum for over a year now and i am going to get the key of my lacrosse 329bht the may 1. One thing i dont like is the fact it dosent have any light outside beside a orange one by the door. so i bought a set of rgb 5050 led strip on amazone last week.

Now im wondering how should i wire them to work perfectly. I was first thinking to go get my power into the orange light by the door outside. But the light is 12v with a power supply that plug into 110v. Should i find some 110v in a wall plug or bypass the power supply and plug it strait to the 12v from a light.

Any tips and trick or simply walktrought how to wire them correctly would be realy helpfull

Thanks
Sebastien

I would run a wire to your control panel and add a switch. Mine are on a 12v circuit I believe.

I drilled a hole into one of the kitchen cabinets and took the power from an interior light that was near the door and wired a dimmer switch because they were very bright. All they require is 12 dc and all the interior lights and the yellow outside light are 12 v dc. Just make sure you get outside led strips and get a roll of 3m molding tape 1/4 inch wide , the tape on the back of the leds didn't stick good

Ditto on the 3M tape. I just installed mine Sunday and today they had dropped and were hanging. I used 1/2" tape the second time but 1/4" would probably be better. Also be careful when installing. I wound up not getting mine very straight.

Send a message via Yahoo to bob caldwell
There's a ton of posts on here about how to mount and where to tap in for power......should read all you can so you can benefit from those who went thru this before......lots of options. Check the mods area of the forum, the next thread down from this one.

I bought and mounted clear plastic Chanel that the led light strips would
Mount to, I placed those strips to the Rv with 3m VHB ( very high bond ) tape and used VHB 3m promoter, this way I can remove the led strips later to replace if necessary and not pull the plastic channel from the RV. Also, added a rocker switch I pitched from eBay.

I just installed short led strips in all my cabinets. bought the kit from Home depot on sale. if you cut the strips at the marked locations, new leads solder on easy for 12v use. I believe, and someone correct me if i'm wrong but i think the strips use a 12v constant and the other 3 "R", "B", "G"? are negative switched. To get white, I soldered 1 wire across all 3 of those leads. now i have only 2 wires to connect a "+" and a "-".

Was going to start on my cabinets this weekend for same project. Have all materials-just need motivation and more cold beer.
