Would be cool to have a electric Furnace

I honestly don't like using the Gas Furnace we have in our Puma 23FB. Actually I don't like using Gas anything but the stove. Would be cool to remove GAS furnace and put something Electric in that could still connect to the floor ducts. Anything like this out there?

Not sure about sizing for your trailer, but my A126 has the Dometic CoolCat heat pump. It works great and from what I could see on the installation instructions in the manual it could be setup for ducted systems (in the A-series units it just has a single set of 3 outputs under the couch/dinette with return under those vents).

The CoolCat system however only works down to about 40 degrees F according to the manual. We have had success with ours working down to 36F before the compressor would shut down (manual states 40F +/- 2F).

We love the CoolCat and have only used our furnace for about an hour so far. We camped this past weekend and hit 34F just before sunrise. We turned on the gas furnace for a bit to warm up while we had coffee and waited for the sun to start warming things up.

Our Trailer is 23ft or slighter bigger. It seems like those heat pumps are ceiling mounted. Our Furnace is mounted under the jacknife Sofa and A/C is ceiling mounted obviously with ducts. I just wish I could utilize the existing space for current furnace and take that out and mount something electric in there.

Hmm that looks intersting! But rather pricey for what it seems to be. Just a heat element in front of the existing Furnaces blower. Wonder if I can mod something similar myself LOL.

Yup..... exactly what I thought - can purchase a lot of propane for that expense.

Of course you understand that if you're on a non-electric site, you'll have no heating option whatsoever.

There's many times now that with the limit of 30 amps, I don't have enough power available to heat entirely with electric...have to run the furnace. This would be for camping in temperatures below 40F.

I wouldn't recommend changing out the gas furnace.

I agree with Dave... we camped two weekends ago and it got down to the low
30's and we needed the gas furnace to supplement the electric fireplace.
also had one weekend when the power was lost for an hour in the loop we were in, furnace stayed on and we stayed warm.

Cheap heat????? Wholly cow $880 plus 5hr install. I must be missing something. How is that cheap? You can buy about 50 bottles of propane for that. About 15 yr supply of propane. TT will be worth less than cheap heat system then, possibly use on my boat as an anchor.

Thanks for input guys. My wife is just super paranoid about propane. She's even nervous using Water heater. So I was trying to make her more at ease with electric heater.

+1 on that. We use one or two supplemental ceramic heaters at the extremes of the season to help offset propane use. Some of the ones we own are a bit noisy for nighttime use, though.

My cool at heat pump/ac unit is mounted under the sofa in the A126.

I do however agree that keeping a gas option is a good idea. We only plan on using the LP furnace when boonedocking or when the heat pump isn't sufficient (although we are really leaning to a ceramic space heater for those really cold nights instead of gas).

Buy any unit with a built-in fireplace... there's your electric heater (plus ambiance)!

you can also add a fireplace from sams club for abt $80. can enjoy the fireplace w/o heat if u so desire. no wood, propane, or kerosene. two heat settings: 700w and 1500w. heater is underneath; rest of the unit runs cool.

Just purchased an electric fireplace from wally world for $70. Looks like a real fire and has a 1250 watt heater on it. Weight is only 18 lbs.

We dry-camped for 3 nights in TN a couple of weeks ago where it was getting down to 33 degrees. I had 1 honda 2000 running the camper and another running an edenpure quartz heater. I didn't really like 2nd generator sucking gas but I'm glad I had it. I also didn't like the heater sitting on the floor as it's bulky, but again, I'm glad I had it. That setup kept it toasty warm without running the furnace at all.

Just a thought, depending on what roof top a/c you have, you can buy a 5600 btu heat strip for it, we use ours for milder nights, works well, use the fan on manual, provides extra outside noise abatement. Our a/c is a dometic, not sure if you can get one for a carrier unit.
