Have you pinched yourself lately?

Didn't have elbow or knee pads in case you fell off bike. Didn't have chain guards, I remember the piece of car tire innertube, string, cord, or the store bought spring steel band to keep your pant leg out of the chain.
Seven kids in a 2 door sedan. 1 in the middle of front seat, rest piled in back seat, 2 sitting on others laps, sometimes at least 1 standing.
Water from the water hose that laid out in the dirt and sun all day tasted better than from a faucet.

And the car keys were left in the ignition and the big search for the skeleton key to lock the house when we went on vacation, which was a rare occasion.

And Mom always kept the outdoor light on when you were going to be home late.

Same as elbow pads but worn on the knees just like they do for skateboarding. I see young ones wearing them a lot at the CG.

We had a 40' silo on the farm where I grew up. It had an enclosed ladder to climb to the top, but it also had steel bands around it every 4 feet or so to hold it together when it was filled with silage (the silo, itself, was concrete sections stacked on top of one another.)

We discovered as kids that it was more fun to climb up the OUTSIDE on those steel reinforcing bands, so we would go all the way to the top, swing one leg over the edge, and sit up there, whether the silo was full, half full, or completely empty.

As a teenager, I built my own plane out of balsa and rice paper. My mother wondered why I always had my bedroom door shut while building it. Wonder if she ever figured it out. I'll have to ask her.
