I remember all of those things and using lead to fill dents in the steel auto body I opened a can with a P38 about two weeks ago to show my grand kids what it did. White sidewall tires Jimmy Durante on the radio. Them was the days.

White sidewall tires - yep, they really dressed up a car. The ones I remember covered at least 2/3 of the sidewall. There was even fake white sidewalks. You deflated the tire and slid them under the rim and inflated the tire. Didn't work or look too good.

Also remember that red reflected tape guys would put on the rear bumper and tried to come up with the most creative design.

Today it's called a 380 and you need a permit to carry it. You still can't buy beer in Indiana on Sunday.

Back when the p38 was made there was also an aircraft called P-38 Lightening, twin engine and 4 - 50 cal machine guns with 20mm cannon in the nose.

My Dad had a steering knob on every truck he ever owned, including the one my brother just bough a couple of months back (Dad passed away). He said they tried to make him take it off during a couple of inspections (Texas), but he never did.

I carried my P-38 for many years. It was one of those checklist items when I was a crew member in the Air Force. A survival thing. I still have a few around here somewhere.

I suppose I'm in that same boat with a few others and suffer from CRS (Can't Remember S**t!)!!

I still have a couple of the P-38's and I know how it got that name ~ does anyone else? That's cause it took 38 'Twists' to get around the food can.

Still remember walking the real downtown sidewalks and looking at a TV (television) thru the plate glass windows, speaker hanging outside so you could hear it, everything was black & white on the screen. Dad bought our 1st from the Firestone Dealer there in Odessa, TX. That's back when the TV was a piece of furniture, large solid Maple wood cabinet. Had the choice of 3 channels to watch and I was the remote control!

Remember a lot of Patriotic things from back then too and the next best thing was seeing the Budweiser Clydesdale Beer wagon in the parades.

3 channels, wow. Remember the test pattern and the national anthem at sign off. Survived riding my bike without a helmet, no seat belts when growing up, drank water from a hose, played outside (there was no video games to play) played tag (can't touch anyone now). It's a miracle we grew up.

Same here. I guess watching daffy duck get his bill shot around his head made us grow up too violent. I remember the first tv we had was a round 9 inch screen in a cabinet with a large crappy speaker and as large as the old radios.

so true, ... a "console tv" was the center piece of many living rooms, ... our console tv(a big 24" w/color) from yesteryear, .... is now fully gutted and used as a cabinet base for the 46"er, w/shelves for the stereo, dvd and blu-ray players, dvd's, ect., ...... and those were the good old days???

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to*– The Outer Limits."

Hmmm. I don't know the answer, but Wikipedia doesn't agree with you.

Of course, that doesn't make you wrong. But then the P51 name wouldn't make sense, either.
