"We have had no issues with the Ford engine and chassis so why change? The 6.7 has been a bullet proof engine for us. We have not had 1 failure of any engine in any vehicle we have sold with it. "

I also asked if they would prefer a Boxed frame vs open C, and if boxing a frame was an option. here was his response

"We have decided to only run on Open C frames because they provide the flex needed to keep from damaging major structural components. All of the Chassis Cab trucks from all three use open C because of the standardized rails. If you have a failure in a boxed frame, it will be a catastrophic failure and likely leave you completely stranded. Putting that much weight on a frame that does not flex can lead to large welds breaking and tearing instead of bending."

When I was working in missouri in 99, I looked at a Mustang GT. I was ready to buy, but they would not give me a sell price until I committed to buy. I told them Im not committing until I know if I'm getting a good deal or not. They told me they won't give a price until I commit so that I wouldn't take that price down the street.

Wow. That price seems to be a bit optimistic. (Sarcasm)
I have been waiting for you people to come to a consensus on which new truck is best so I can buy one. Maybe my 2001 7.3l with 88k trouble free miles will be worth more than I think it is when it comes time to upgrade.

Keep the 2001, take the money you save and go buy some crack off of the guy selling the Dodge for 33K. Its some primo stuff

After you get all smoked up on that stuff, you'll think your 2001 is worth about 50K?

I've got a friend that called me last night talking new diesels. He's teetering between the Ford and the Dodge. I told him he couldn't go wrong either way- get the one he likes best. But it did get me to thinking about these trim level differences. I know the Dodge Laramie has gotten lots of praise for the leather on the dash, doors, etc. As I think about that and what the leather seats look like in one thats got some age on it, I wonder how that's gonna hold up- especially being on a place like the dash that gets direct sunlight. I'm wondering if 10 years from now there will be a lot of really nasty looking faded and torn dashes in some of these upper trim level trucks. You guys think it'll hold up???

The diesel option is interesting when comes to used market. If you get just 10% off the price of your new truck. That means that the 8500 for the diesel option less 10% you paid 7650.00 for the diesel option on a new truck. But looking at the 2012 Ford F350 with diesel used retail price on NADA adds 8200 for the diesel option over gas. Not many other options worth more used than you paid for them new.

Yea, I thing the Ram guy is just a "LITTLE" high on his pricing LOL

All the current trucks interiors should be able to make it 10years without a problem. I firmly believe that the RAM is a great truck for the most part. Super innovative and has really set the bar from a tech and interior perspective. But there are still some serious gaps in overall quality and reliability (mainly from an electronic, structural, and hardware perspective.). Until they address those issues, I won't consider them.

If you buy at the right time, ram quite often offers free diesel.

If buddy is looking between ford and ram, I can almost bet ram will be cheaper.

That wasn't the case a month ago when I looked, but???? A month or so back I bought my F250 that had an MSRP of $56,xxx for $43,xxx. I got it for $13250 off MSRP. The similar Ram- a 2500 Longhorn- was going to be around $46K. The same money would get a Tradesman which was really cheap feeling and the seats were horrid. Wasn't a contest at all for me after looking at them. However, he says that a local dealer has an ad for a 3500 Crew 4x4 Cummins Tradesman that is at $43,xxx. This dealer is known for running an ad for a specific stock number that is never available- the old bait and switch routine. I told him I thought that would be a great deal IF he could get it- also told him not to expect much of an interior and plan for some pretty uncomfortable seats. But he's needing a work truck, so it would probably work fine for his needs.

My last two Rams, both had free CUMMINS.

My 2500 list was 72, paid low 50.
My 3500 list was 74, paid low 50.

The 3500 longhorn Laramie dually I originally looked at was 91, they were offering it to me at 74.

All Canadian pricing.

Here's a little FYI tidbit.

The Canadian dollar is really in the crapper right now.
Americans might be wise to check out some Canadian dealers for pricing.

On my sabre, I paid 55 for it. Canadian.
I found quite a few in the states, that were selling for 55usd.

If you convert the 55 cdn I paid into usd. You would pay only 41k.

Just something to think about.

I don't know that I've ever seen a free Cummins upgrade in my area- but I think incentives change by region. I have seen free Hemi upgrades on 1/2 tons at times.

Another reason to hate Ram. They make them in Mexico and then sell them cheaper to Canadians!!!!

I wish they would offer that in the states, I would still need to order one though. I have looked for a Ram 3500 single rear wheel diesel crew cab short bed with 3.73 gears and can not find one within 500 miles. All the ones that I find have the 3.42 gears. I can't understand why the dealers change the standard 3.73 gears to the 3.42 on a 3500. If you are buying a 3500 you will most likely be pulling something and fuel mileage should not be that high on the must have list.
