Say what you will about the aluminum F-150, I saw these photos of a real-life small overlap offset frontal crash (the worst situation possible) and I gotta admit, it looks like the aluminum body is pretty stout. The truck owner estimated that both cars were doing about 30-35 at time if impact.
The F-150
And what it hit:
The F-150 driver walked away with a few scraps and bumps.

Oh yeah, both are totaled. I like how despite the damage, there was no intrusion into the passenger compartment. According to the story, the firewall moved a couple of inches back, and the dash twisted up a little because of it, but other than that (and the airbags hanging out) you cannot even tell the truck was in a wreck from the inside.
It didn't even break any glass.

I do remember reading that the 2015 Super Cab versions went down on safety rating points for side impacts and Ford was looking at reinforcing those cabs. Over all, late model Ford trucks have good safety ratings.
On a lighter note, I once saw a pickup in Bend OR. that had a piece of mine gauge RR track for a front bumper. I wonder how that car would look having hit that.

Went to a dirt track race once (cant remember where) where they had a "Bruiser" class. The whole gist was they did not throw the yellow flag or Black flags. Ever. They would stop the race if someone rolled over, or if someone was on fire, but other than that... it was game on. Imagine a demo derby, but all going in one direction. Hint! You did NOT want to be leading coming out of 4 on the last lap...
Cars had to weigh like 4000, which is HUGE for a dirt track car. Most cars had RR track bumpers. The only way to make the carnage better was to issue frag grenades to the audience so they could lob one in whenever the mood hit them...
I will not soon forget the sound that two RR tracks make when they strike each other

Have you ever watched the “modified”’s run in the STL area? My neighbor is a buddy of “Mike Hamerlee”. Met him a few times, and have been awe struck by this older fellow. Builds most of his cars like tanks. What comes to mind is a Belleville, ¼ mile heat race, where I saw him continue to race after a wreck that left him with a broken left front tie rod. Yes, they let him race, That ol’boy kept on the power so as to keep that car frame torque’d and that tire in the air and occasionally dropping it down to setup for the turn. It was awesome...

No real contest between car and truck. How about truck to truck.

Oh yeah. Seen the School-bus yellow 16 many times. The Hammer was a pretty big deal back in the day. I remember many many epic races between him and Dandy Don Klein.
Belleville is one of my favorite tracks to go watch. I never had the guts to actually race there.

Something you guys need to remember: Vehicles these days are INTENDED to fold and crumple like you see. It's the folding and crumpling that's absorbing the energy of the crash so YOU don't have to.
Your vehicle is like the sacrificial anode in your HWH. It sacrifices itself so YOU don't have to!!
