I'm Back To Tent Camping

What a way to start the new year off...you can tell I'm bored.

Wife and I camped for years and years in a tent. Then we got big time and moved up to an Aframe camper and loved it. Now we decided to get a 5th wheel and this is where the problems came in.

First, this is the 5th wheel we wanted: Gross weight 60,000#, Hitch weight 8,000#

This is the 1/2 ton Truck we were going to pull it with:

The WEIGHT POLICE came alive. This truck will never pull that camper...too much gross and hitch weight.

SO....we decided to move up to a 3/4 ton gasser:

WEIGHT POLICE: No...no...no....gotta be diesel

So we decided to go with 3/4 ton diesel:

WEIGHT POLICE: NO...NO...NO....if it isn't a turbo it will never work in the mountains. You need a 1 ton dually.

So we decided to go with a 1 ton dually.

WEIGHT POLICE: NO...NO...NO....if you and the misses gain weight and you both weigh 700# you will still exceed your weight limitations.

So this is what we decided to go with:

WEIGHT POLICE: NO...NO...NO That is the wrong color. You can't get on the road pulling with a truck like that. The paint job will blind other drivers and I won't get on the road with you.

So we finally decided on this....BUT....I understand that the brakes are not that good and it's slow to stop. WHAT DO YOU THINK? SHOULD WE JUST GO BACK TO TENT CAMPING?

You'll be fine with the 1 ton dually if only hauling your tent! 😃

I think your right on target to pull (60.000#'s) with the Locomotive! Most C/G are Very near a RR anyway,you would be a Natural at Goshen!

Not that many 5wheels weight that Much?

I looking at upgrading to TV to F150 and new Toy Hauler this spring.

The web site says that F150 have a 3000 pound payload and the 5er I looking at had 9000 dry pound pin weight with CCC of 6500lbs. So a few upgrades are required.

I going to put helper springs on it and that adds 1000 lbs of pay load so that is 4,000 payload
I going add Air bags and box says 5000lbs so now I'm at payload of 9,000 lbs
I going to put Rancho Adjustable shocks on the give another 1000lbs so 10,000 Payload
I give another 1000lbs just because the Ford underrates their Eco Boost and get a tune which will give it 1000 lbs of torque.
My buddy and dealer told me I would fine but if was unhappy he knew where there is a wreck Ford duel wheel and we swap the rear end since just bolts in then the sky is the limit. Plus I can tow in 80 mile cross winds.

Since I have 5000lbs air bags I should be able to 5000lbs of air in them to get the truck level
