Apparently the old school barber shop is coming back. We have a local guy here who's in a very old building and has the place all decorated with barbershop antiques from the chairs to the cash register to old product. Well, except the beer fridge. He's even got a pool table. Went there for a trim and to check it out before my brother's wedding a few weeks back. We walked right in at 2 on a Thursday, but he says after 5 on the average weeknight he's got up to 12 people waiting..................Getting trimmed up with a straight razor was a strange feeling for someone that hasn't touched a standard razor to their face in 15 years!

I started a thread in the Off Topic forum on 2-15-15 regarding my first straight razor shave. Getting one was on my bucket list. Quite a pleasurable experience.

I make sure my barber doesn't have a beer while shaving me however.

I now time my shaving to ensure I have a heavy beard when I get my haircut and shave.

Don't get me wrong, he only did a bit of trimming with the straight razor......................My beard isn't going anywhere, even if it is going gray! I don't think my friends, family, wife or employer would recognize me without it!

Nope, never went there...my wife is a retired master hair stylist so haven't gone to anybody else in a LONG time! (I'm not a beer drinker, anyway.)

In my early Air Force days, the barbers on base would use a straight razor to trim the hair around our ears..only got nicked a couple of times!

I went to a shop in Florida this summer for a straight shave.
Face and head.
I've never had one before, and probably won't again.
It was neat, but I do a much, much better job w a bic.

My barber is old school taught from his father that uses the straight razor. Some of the barber shops around here are 50-100 yrs old and handed down through the family.
