I do remember that now.
I also recall not so fondly that you got hot drinks and a scolding when you or your siblings didn't fill up the ice trays. We were one of the first in our neighborhood to get a fridge with an automatic ice maker. I thought I died and went to heaven.
I bet my kids would think that ice trays are some kind of freaky Lego block if I showed them one.

My brother and I were assigned the task of turning the big outside antenna. We had a pipe wrench outside for a better grip on the pipe... which we also climbed when we wanted to get on the roof.
We were also assigned to WHACK the TV cabinet when the "picture went bad".

Don't forget the vertical and horizontal hold knobs.

Wow! Haven't seen a test pattern in years. My dad used to repair TV 's in the small town where we lived. Even built his own osiilscope from a kit to use on them.

That was me. My parents had only bunny ears back in the 70's. It was not until the late 90's that they decided to get cable. My parents just did not believe in paying for TV. lol. That is how I feel about radio. lol. How times change. Our kids will think nothing of spending $50 to $60 a month on radio.

I recently read an article that talked about the tail-end of the Gen-X'rs (born in the late 70's early 80's like me) that were basically the last of us that really grew up before technology took over but were still young enough when it came about to embrace it.

My favorite quote from the article:

Want to talk to your kids? Send them a text. Even if they are in the same room with you. For sure they will read it.

I live by my kinna smart phone when I am working but when I am off I turn it off.
I do not text, if you need to communicate with me voice is good face to face is better.
As for the kids and grandkids, when they want something from me they have learned how much better I respond when it is voice or face to face.

My parents say the same thing. Then I call them and they never hear the phone ring. So I can't win...
If I just need to tell them something quick and don't need a response, I'll send them a text. They can receive them, just won't send them.
It's better than the 10 minutes of them saying "What?" and me repeating myself because they also need hearing aids.

I was born in 62 and when I wasn't in school I was outside...bike riding or playing football or exploring the woods.
Today, kids have lost the joy of playing outside and I'm amazed at how many are at our neighborhood bus stop in the morning...they are never outside!!

I agree, I accept calls and texts from our 2 boys due to their locations, but we've finally convinced our granddaughters that if you want to communicate with grandma and grandpa, either come over to the house or call. If you come to the house, leave your damned cell phone in your car. Either talk to us and forget the damned phone or go on your way and do what you think is more important. If we take them out to eat, the rule is: the phones are left in the car or turned off.
IMO, it is about as rude as you can be to go to a restaurant and spend 1/2 the time on a damn phone. I have been known to just get up, pay the bill and leave them sitting. Call me a bad a**, but enough is enough. Either converse with folks or go play with your phone. Oh, and if your phone should happen to ring because you forgot to turn it off, leave the table and go outside to talk, I don't want to hear 1/2 of a senseless conversation.

Inside by the TV, next to the Sony beta player.
