Yep, except in my case, we went outside to turn the pole-mounted antenna by hand.

Depends on your POV. Crime is down. People are living longer. Medical and technological sciences are increasing at an exponential rate. I'd say we live in a pretty good time right now.

1960 total crime 1.9% 2013 total crime 3.09% according to your data.

And we never had all the fancy home alarms, car alarms, surveillance cameras, TSA, etc...

Would also like to see the numbers from 1940-1960.

Yup, I was born in late 60s and gone though most of the stuff you all were talking about. My sister and I kept some items from back then. We have a floor model radio with a record player inside the cabinet, boy do I love the sound of those old speakers. Deep resonance coming the speakers.

As for my son, he is 12 now but I have gotten him involved with little league baseball and Boyscouts. So he spends a lot less time on video games. More time outdoors for him.

I do recall a local story that crime was down in 2014 when compared to 2013.

Lots of people never locked the doors, windows were left open due to the lack of A/C.

Guns were at school so an after school pheasant hunt could happen, now days if a grade schooler shows up with one of those little green plastic soldiers they are run out of school if not arrested first.

When I was 17 I traveled from Michigan to Pinery park in Ontario Canada and camped for the weekend with friends without cell phone (digital leash). No passport, sometimes a call home (first few trips). I can't imagine 17 year old young men being allowed to do that now days. I think I may have had it easy...

How about the satellite dishes that were so big your VW bug could use 'em as a garage? Wheel wells with lights and painted white. 48 Chev, split manifold w/ straight pipes.

Growing up something like this was our version of high tech, I can remember climbing up as a kid to replace the twin antenna cables it took for VHF and UHF.
