Lawyers and Engineers on a Train
The ABC Widget company sent 3 engineers and 3 laywers to a seminar about patents. This required a train ride from Kansas City to Detroit.
At the ticket window, the 3 lawyers bought 3 tickets. The engineers only bought 1 ticket.
The lawyers asked, "How are the three of you going to ride this train with only one ticket?"
"Wait and see" said the engineers.
When the train began to leave the station, the three engineers got up from their seats and crowded their way into one of the cars rest room. When the conductor came by, he knocked on the door and said "Ticket, please!" At which, the engineers slid their one ticket under the door. The conductor punched it and slid it back under the door.
"Ah-ha!" said the lawyers. "The engineers have figured out a way to cut costs and boost company profits!"
At the conclusion of the patent seminar, the lawyers and engineers arrived at the station, where the lawyers purchased one ticket. But this time, the engineers purchased no tickets at all. Not one.
"You showed great resourcefulness using one one ticket for the three of you, but how are you going to get home with no ticket at all?" asked the lawyers.
"Wait and see" advised the egineers.
As the train began to leave the station, the enginners again crowded into a rest room, and the lawyers piled into the other rest room across the isle. In a moment, one of the engineers slipped out of their rest room, crossed the isle and knocked on the lawyers rest room door.
"Ticket, please!"
