Yep, and he was saying "don't run this stolen/cancelled/worthless card until I am way out of town with free new tires"

When he came to pay and pick it up, he said he had cash but was (something like) $200 short. I said, "Then tell your kid and your brother there to get in their pockets and get the balance." He did and they did. They were holding for him all the time... and I hit his bluff square in the nose!
All of us dicker on the price but after those games I would have told him no sale. The guy tried to stroke you twice, that is getting bad.

I do understand we each have reasons for selling, not saying like that you failed, just my attitude about the those that game folks. I bet he brought his kin just to watch him deal.

So, does that sawdust in the differential really work?

He had driven to my house in the country (about 14 miles one way for him) about 4 times to look the truck over. I started treating him like a relative he'd been there so often. I knew he was hooked and he was just messing with me. When he started to leave, I poured a little more gasoline in the truck so he could make it home and he jokingly asked if he could have the plastic gas can. I said, "Sure... in trade for the keys to your Oldsmobile." We laughed. They left. Money was real. I was done.

What is really funny there is that he might have to borrow money from his kin to buy gas on the way home.

It work out well for all, that is what is important.

I did hear a story once about a guy who took off the inspection plate and stuffed a bunch of bananas in the diff to stop the gear whine while he was selling the car. Working until the safety check, or so I was told.

Andy and Gomer say so.

You just had to mention that and make me go watch one of my all time favorite episodes. It starts at the 16:20 minute mark when Gomer comes in.

Some funny stuff here. I manage a few fleet shops. At least once a week I get "I'm here to pick up my car" (we have 600 white fords). I reply, you car/truck number? They reply, don't know, the white one...
