I have heard through others that is not legal in some states and provinces to leave the ball attached while not actively towing. Beats me, but my thinking is, if you hit your shin one time, lesson learned.

Also if it is not your truck and you hit your shin on it .... you are too close to someone else's truck.

Was told that when NE PA by the safety personnel at weekly safety meetings. Heard the ticket around $100 to $200. Took mine out. Sure the target were the out of state trucks. They were a couple of hands that said they got one. Think it was a secondary offense. Speeding was the main thing.

1969 f250 at a local tire store I was walking back out to it when a car drove in way to close truck rocked a little till the car stopped.
Sliced it open like a pop can....
Cops called, paper work exchanged we both agreed to pay for our own repairs.

Now that's pain.........for him.

Works great ripping open the grille on the idiot that pulls in too close to you in a shopping mall parking lot.

I guess I never made it far enough out of evolution and need to keep running into mine.....I take mine off the truck and lay it under the trailer coupler or I put an orange traffic cone over it....don't seem to miss that though!!!!

Ouch!

Would love for someone to bury their nose into a WDH head just to see the damage caused! Sorry-I'm an evil person cause I sell body parts!

Did that just yesterday. Rarely tow anything with the SUV, but Saturday was free dump day in my part of the county, so we hooked up our little utility trailer loaded with 2 trees and sundry odds and ends that we finally came to the conclusion we weren't really going to fix "someday." Had to make a quick run to Wally World and ran into the hitch 3 times while loading and unloading. Looking out my front window as I type and it seems to be mocking me even now.

HONDAMAN174, I was sitting at a light on a hill at the bottom, and a lady slide down the hill (it was icy) and hit my WDH at about 15 miles an hour. The little Honda civic did not make it well. Hitch went into motor after it went through the radiator. She was mad at my truck!
