Perry Mason "The Case of the Missing Steps"

I have started watching and really enjoying the old Perry Mason tv series, as Amazon has the first five seasons on Amazon Prime.

Well, I realized tonight, I spend way too much time on these forums, as the first thing I noticed on an episode that involves a stolen trailer while the owner is sunbathing nearby...is where are the steps? Come on Hollywood, you have to have steps. Also if you watch the episode, you'll notice the trailer is unlevel too.

Anyway, now that I was really critiquing the episode, Perry ran an ad in the paper to try and recover the trailer, which is screenshotted below:

I had never heard of Biltmore trailers, and then wanted to know if this was just Hollywood stuff or was there really some of this kind. I did find a sales flyer online for them, but not much else. The sales flyer does show a model that matches the paint scheme and doors/windows of the one in the episode.

Now I was really curious on these trailers, and before I got in touch with the Paul Drake Detective Agency, was wondering if any of our members know much about these trailers.

P.S: The actual Perry Mason episode is Season 1 episode 17 "The Case Of The Sunbathers Diary"

Reminds me of the Trailer in the Desi / Lucy movie...'The Long Trailer' ? Whoa...we're showing our age a little.

And they pulled those trailer with cars.

In the episode, although not actually shown it being pulled but inferred, the trailer is stolen using a Willys Jeep, as it shows the thief driving one, and hooking it up here.

When it is retrieved, it's inferred a car will be used as she tells the guy she has the hitch in her trunk.

I did notice in the sales flyer that the company was from Norwalk, Ca which is out there near Hollywood...so it makes sense they may use a local company.

I also noticed that they have the same disclaimer on the flyer as FR does, that "specifications subject to change without notice".

Did they even have steps back they? I haven't seen the long, long trailer in a while but it seems to me that Ricky had to set out a step stool to go in, and they sit lower than today's trailers.

Lol, what I have noticed is most everyone on the show smokes like a steam locomotive.

I'm assuming they had cigarette sponsors.

My grandfather purchased one of the Biltmores (used), in the early 60's from a outfit on Long Island. He used it on his deer camp property in Delaware County, NY. These things were more mobile home then RV. I remember it was two tone, white with aqua accent. It had a front living room with lots of glass, center kitchen with an actual kitchen table & chairs. It had two bedrooms, one with twin bed, the other with full size. The bath was a 3/4. The interior finish was varnished maple. The furnace was a gravity feed fuel oil pot burner. It came with a 20 gallon water heater which was accessed through an outside door. The front and rear stairs were a one step pull-out and lock down. I don't remember exactly what he paid for it, but knowing my grandfather it wasn't that much. It was used for many, many deer seasons. When my grandfather passed away in 1987 the property was sold, with the trailer, to a hunting guide outfit, and the trailer is still used to this day. A lot of memories!

So I'm not the only one who does that too. I'll even do it on western movies to see the difference.

More interesting, do you remember what the word was that the letters were part of? Ours was LOgan... My mom still had the same number when she passed a few years back...
