The William Darrell ferry in the pic runs from Cape Vincent, N.Y. to Wolfe Island on the Canadian side of the border. I haven't taken that ferry but I have been on the ferry from Wolfe Island to Kingston, ON.

Not a horse, but I've seen a pic of a deer in a toy hauler:
