They would spend that kind of money. It looks like the aluminum tape the furnace man uses to seal the seams on the ducts. Way cheaper.

No need. That’s an aluminum based tape we always called “600 mph” tape. Usually used for short periods to get an airplane to a location where permanent repairs can be made. I once flew an airplane from Shanghai, China to Appleton, WI with a big strip of it plastered on the left windshield. The windshield had a crack in the outer layer. I think there’s something like six or seven more layers there. The tape was there to keep moisture out. And, it costs more than $50,000 to replace it.

In the military we called it speed tape, fantastic for temp repairs. Saw them put a speed tape "band aid" on the end of a wing when the wingtip blew off from a fuel vent problem. Flew 4 hours back to home base to get it fixed, the tape was as strong as when they put it on.
