Cases of engine oil were stacked up along with racks of hoses and belts.

There was always a certain aroma in those places.

One of my first orders when I was old enough was a pair of 1953 Chevrolet fender shirts.
When a case of oil was 24 cans not 12 and you could use the other end of the bottle opener to open the cans.

Finally one I can answer!

2 dollar bills and 1 dollar "gold color" coins (Sacagawea and Presidential Series) are all overseas and in bank vaults here as "on hand reserves."

Go to any European bank and convert your Euros back to dollars and you will be getting 20s, 10s, and 2s in paper and any ones in coin.

Exporting "oops'ies" are not new.

The Dalkon Shield is a perfect example. Banned in the US for causing numerous deaths, the factory ramped up production as it was exported to Asia and India for their use. Dalkon Shield - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Some baby formulas banned for sale in the US since the early 1970s continue to be produced and heavily marketed overseas. Other formulations currently for sale in the US were banned in New York hospitals and, soon (if not already) in Massachusetts, due to "unintended consequences" of increased immune system deficiencies in infants. No doubt when completely banned, they will continue to be marketed overseas.

There are many other examples.

I apologize in advance if this is too close to the "political speech ban" ...

The USPS uses them in stamp machines, so there are a very limited amount in circulation. Most people stick them in a coin jar since many stores will not accept them (no place to put them in the register) and if they do, they get rid of them immediately.

Some cashiers think they are either foreign or counterfeit.

In High School I worked the register at a super market. No UPC scanners and you had to be able to count the change.

Actually my job before that had a manual cash register with a tax table taped onto it. First you added the taxable items, then added the sales tax, then non taxable items.
On both registers you had to know what change to give out.

Anyway, I collected a couple of original $2 bills (Gold Certificate) and a silver certificate $5. Each was almost perfect.
Sadly a college room mate lifted them from my stuff. My fault for trusting him as much as anything.

One good thing though, I can remember customers standing next to the belt smoking cigarettes. One lady always had a Virginia Slim and let the ash fall whenever it wanted to. I really do not miss that.

$2 dollar bills are considered good luck in Korea. They are so puzzled when I tell them that we hate them in America! I did get a near mint 1928 $2 bill once. It's tucked away...

You are so right! But with a Subject line like that, what do you expect!

On a saner note...

Come on, haven't you seen some idiot park and walk up to a drive through ATM? Or better yet, the driver that can't get close enough to use it through the window, so he or she parks the car 3 feet from the ATM gets out of the car and bends over to use it when there are walk up ATMs on the other side of the bank?

I stand by the pick I made for the subject line, I see little hope for the future, there will always be smart people but they are getting out numbered at an ever increasing rate.

I overheard this in the office of the body shop I work at. "Um, like my mom sent me here because, well I got into an accident and I need like a estimate for the damage, because I think the insurance needs it I think"!

Yep, keep letting the kids text all the time! it`s doing society great! I asked my son about how they teach grammar in middle school (7th grade), says they really aren`t going to cover that right now! yep schools are doing great!

We have a walk up ATM outside at work in the parking lot it is fun to watch people try to drive up even with yellow iron bumpers & lines painted in front. With handicapped parking spaces on each side......
