Steady, William

A woman in a supermarket was following a grandfather and his badly behaving three-year-old grandson.

It was obvious to her that he had his hands full with the child — he was screaming for candy, cookies, pop and everything else he shouldn't have.

Meanwhile, granddad is working his way around the store, saying in a controlled voice, "Steady, William: we won't be long. Easy, boy."

At the checkout, the little terror is throwing items out of the cart, and granddad says again in a controlled voice, "William, William, William: Relax, buddy! Don't get upset! We'll be home in five minutes; stay cool, William."

Very impressed, the woman goes outside where the grandfather is loading his groceries and the boy into the car. She said to the elderly gentleman, "It's none of my business, but you were amazing in there. I don't know how you did it. That whole time, you kept your composure, and no matter how loud and disruptive he got, you just calmly kept saying things would be okay. William is very lucky to have you as his grandpa."

"Thanks," said the grandfather, "but I'm William. That little SoB's name is Kevin."

I had a humorous incident at a grocery store like this several years ago. There was a mother with a young boy who was whining & begging & just being a pain for his mother. After following her around for a few minutes I walked by them & looked at the boy. I told him that if he would throw himself on the floor & cry & pound his fists & kick his feet that he just might get his way. This little kid looked up & me & ran & grabbed his mothers legs & shut right up. The woman looked at me & said, "Thank you". I didn't hear a peep out of the kid the rest of the time.

Good one Herk, even tho' it's a joke, it sure does explain why kids nowadays have no respect for anyone. Their parents just put up with a lot of nonsense and never correct the "little darlings".

Today, spanking your kid in public could get you reported with a 911 call from some "do gooder" for child abuse.

To be fair, I have see "corrections" that were WAY over the line. It is really hard to make rules about what is a correction and what is abuse.

Like the pornography senate hearings of old, the "I know it when I see it" rule does not work (as shown in the hearings) because everyone has different ideas as what is acceptable and what is not.

A few of the senators declared art worth millions of dollars "pornographic" because it showed the female breast for example.

awesome joke! It actually reminded me of sobriety (I'm sober) - can't control others, you can only control yourself, and here's this guy making it through one minute at a time, reminding himself "this too shall pass".
