At this time of the year, when the roadblocks come up with great regularity, I would like to share a personal experience with my closest friends about drinking and driving.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from an occasional social session over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for an evening with friends and had a couple of cocktails and some rather nice red wine.

Knowing full well I may have been slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before; I took a cab home. Sure enough, I passed a police road block but, since it was a cab, they waved it past.

I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise as I have never driven a cab before and am not sure where I got it or what to do with it now that it's in my garage

After going through all sort of sobriety tests and then a Breathalyzer, the office said to me "Sir, you are legally drunk !!". So my response was "So, if I am legal, what is the problem ??"

Chap, I got pulled over one time and the officer immediately knew I was drunk driving...........just by looking at how ugly the girl was seated next to me.

A recent joint study conducted by the Department of Health and the Department of Motor Vehicles indicates that 23% of traffic accidents are alcohol related.

This means that the remaining 77% are caused by as-----les who drink bottled water, Starbucks, soda, juice, energy drinks and s--t like that.

Therefore, beware of those who do not drink alcohol.

They cause three times as many accidents.

Good story Herk. I'm no angel either and in my younger years thought drinking and driving was dangerous because the can was in the way of your line of sight. Now with a few grey hairs and celebrate each birthday as a miracle, I'm understand the deadly role it plays. Altho the 'Legal Limits' I feel are somewhat of a joke, (artificially low) I cherish my CDL class 2 & pilots license and certainly would not want to jeopardize those. To toss my .02 in....please be careful on the roads, and if ya' do drink....and have 'em make ya' breakfast in the morning.

After extensive research by the Federal Highway Administration it was discovered that the majority of people in most states used 4 letter words before their automoble accidents. The exception was southern states (including my home state, Virginia) where the most used words before a wreck were "Hey bubba, hold my beer and watch this".

Cockpit Voice Recorders have also been found with those "last words"

Other famous last words:

Having had access to several actual crash tapes, it has been my experience that there is normally only time enough for the last word and not the first. Occasionally, there is enough time for that word to be repeated several times.
Don't think I have ever heard the "Oh"

You're probably right on the money. I pulled that tidbit from an AOPA article several years ago. Regardless, it reminds me of an old excerpt. "What goes thru a bugs mind as he hits your windshield?................His butt"
