My oldest sister has her doctorate in statistics. She once had trouble in the kitchen struggling to using one of my new cooking tools. I asked her if I could help has as it was not rocket science. That woman, twenty years my senior, snapped and replied, I can do rocket science, I just can't get this to work. We both laughed our butts off.

I now help quietly when I see her in distress.

My Abstract Algebra teacher would cringe. There should be parentheses around some things that are just strung out. That would make it easier. And I still can't see how many nanners there are. For all I know, one is hiding in the bunch in the last pic.

Yes, I'm sore about this whole thing............ I think it was calculated to make old people look bad. That's what I think.

The way they teach math these days, there is no wrong answer, everyone is correct.

The answer the old fashion way, I learned is 31, using the order of math operations ( multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction).

OK, This has been fun. I had my brother ask another brother from another state and another county and another street and another mother post this question. The answer is?

I screwed up the math operation order (and then missed the post that called me on it).

I'm ashamed of myself - 'cause I know how to work an HP calculator!

Answer is 31 - based on a fuzzy view of the bananas!

Why isn't this "22"?

3 apples = 30 makes each apple a "10"

An apple plus 4 bananas (2 banana bunches) = 18 makes a single banana equal a "2"

2 bananas (4) minus 2 coconut halves = 2 makes each halve a "1"

one coconut half (1) plus and apple (10) times a single banana (2) = "22"

If what looks like (when I blow it up) one banana is actually two, then I would say "44"

It has been bugging me this looked so familiar. Then it hit me. This is what the dealer did when we bought the RV.

PEDMAS of course!

The Order of Operations: PEMDAS

On line 4 you must multiply first, so you get "21"

1 + (10x2) = 21

or if there are actually 2 bananas

1 + (10x4) = 41

OK,
Here goes logic in action.
3 apples = 30 Value is 10 each
A whole bunch of bananas =4
Coconuts halfs =1

So the final problem:
Now here's the kicker: Half a bunch of bananas (yes that is half a bunch) =2
Half a coconut (1) plus one apple (10)=11 x (half bunch of bananas) 2 =22
There's your answer.
That was easy..............

If the "order of things" says multiplication takes place before addition then the answer is 31. BTW, there are 3 bananas in the bottom line.

EDIT: fella10 posted as I was writing up my answer. We both got it but fella10 was technically first.

I used the zoom function in my browser and that's how these tired eyes saw 3.

Earlier I said 48. Ok, I admit it. I am throughly confused by the whole thing. I think the answer is whatever you want to see. That puzzle got more different answers that TV load capacities.

On a different note I do know the difference between: there, their & they're.
