TURBS, you're wasting the skin on your finger tips typing this again. Some people cling to the concept that ALL half ton trucks are exactly as capable as their daddy's 1951 Studebaker trucks.

Check out Couch's RV Nation and talk to Brannon. We got a terrific deal from him.

First thing you need to do is check your payload sticker on the drivers door jam and see what your payload capacity is. I had a 2013 Ram Laramie, similar tow rating as yours, and the payload was only 1061lbs. Yes, you read that right...my wife's minivan had a higher payload capacity than my Hemi truck. I was not happy at all. I weighed my truck at a CAT scale to verify, and with the family in it, tonneau cover, etc, I had 420lbs of payload left before I was maxed out at the 6800 GVWR. If I would have bought the trailer we were looking at (Jayco WhiteHawk...7500 GVWR), I would have been way over my payload.......

If your Ram isnt a laramie and has less options, you might have 1200-1400lbs I am guessing? Ram's have lower payload others due in part to their coil springs. There are some max payload F150's that can have up to 1800-1900lbs payload capacity, so there is a big difference in 1/2 ton payload capacity. Rams are just lower than the others.

A bumper pull TH will have a much heavier tongue weight than a comparable travel trailer. It is going to be extremely difficult to find a toy hauler (unless a Spree ultralight or something like that) that is under your payload capacity I would guess. WDH of course will help transferring weight to the front axle, and "some" weight to the trailer axles, but IMO a Ram 1/2 ton and toy hauler do not go well together. Good luck

The question is, do you really believe that your truck is less capable than your wife's minivan? I know it isn't and therefore come to the only logical conclusion that there is massive influence on these numbers outside of the engineering department. Either your wife's minivan is seriously unsafe when fully loaded, or the truck is seriously under rated. Using deduction and noting the lack of "overloaded minivan" accidents littering the highways, I am confident I know the answer.

It was more than capable of towing a heavy load but the suspension in ram half tons is so incredibly soft, any weight on the rear end and it would sag something terrible. It was about maxed out with a brute 750 in the bed..looked like a low rider!

The defining moment for me was hauling two full size atvs in a 7x12 utility trailer (which is quite heavy I will admit) and I had a yamaha 50 atv in the bed...2 adults and 2 kids in the truck. Steering was very light and the rear end was about as low as it could go. Ymmv, but it just didn't work for me
