Big toy in toy hauler

I started out looking at a Grey Wolf, but ended up with a XLR Boost 27. Plan was to pull it with my Ram 1500 and get a golf cart for when my son is shooting sporting clays.
Salesman assured me my 1500 would do fine, but after towing home, I was not feeling it. Ended up trading for a Ram 2500 and no budget for a golf cart.
Just for grins, I decided to pull my Ranger Crew in the camper to see if it would fit. It does with about 1" clearance on each side. Is this enough room to haul my Ranger? Also sticker says camper is rated for 2k in the garage area. My Ranger is about 1.8k but is 13' feet long so the front tire reaches to the stove area. I think I should be good weight wise, but need to go a scale to check.

Just curious, what does your yellow weight sticker show for the weight you can carry?

My garage on my XLR Thunderbolt shows 3K for the garage load but my total carrying weight for the trailer is 2800 LB and that’s without water.

At work so I can't look at sticker. Dry weight listed is #6400 and gross is #9985

Also watch the weight load on the rear ramp. Sometimes they are much lower than the carrying capacity. I think your Ranger would sway inside the cargo area and you might find your sidewalls marked up. Can you use dense foam between the Ranger and the walks?

Our Vengeance is 3k in cargo but 4063 overall with a GVWR of 1600.
As far as width and length of your toy it fits. Tie the range down really well and you should be good. How is your tongue weight? That will make a difference in ride.

The 1" gap is from the cabinet on one side and the counter on the other. All I could think of was maybe an air bag under each side to inflate under the Ranger to keep it from swaying.
On the ramp, my Ranger wheelbase is long enough that only front or rear tires are on the ramp at one time.

Tongue weight is just over 1k when empty. Will have to go to scale to see how Ranger affects this.

Many (most?) vehicle salespeople will tell buyers that "of course this truck/suv/etc will pull your trailer". Salespeople just want to sell the vehicle they have and, really don't care if it will truly do the job you need doing. Pulling on level ground is easy. "Normal" everyday driving is different than pulling on level ground (very possibly when your rig is NOT fully loaded when you test drive the truck). Frankly, I'd be more concerned about stopping the rig, especially under less than ideal circumstances. CAREFULLY go over your numbers (GVWR, GCWR, axle/wheel/tire ratings etc). You NEED an ACCURATE weight at EACH wheel position to get this right (CAT Scales will get you in the ballpark but, that's really NOT enough). Smart Weigh is a program available through Escapees RC Club. FMCA and RVSEF rallies often have this service at their events too. For $50 ~ $75 (depending on how many wheels you have) you will get the EXACT weights for YOUR rig. It's a one time deal (unless you make SUBSTANTIAL changes to your rig). Just DO it. If you've never attended an RV Boot Camp, I'd strongly you do so. All of this (and much more) will be clearly explained and demystified (it IS a confusing topic).

we purchased a FR Greywolf tag along toyhauler in 2016 new in Vermont following the sales person assuring us it would hold our SXS
we hauled it past that same Burlington Dealership less than a year later and traded it in Niagara falls 2017 for a 5th wheel Z 331 TH12.
reason for trade - I couldn't even get our SXS inside the TH. despite assurances the measurements given worked for loading.
the toy will move more than that 1 inch and scrape the trailer and the toy up.

My Jeep fits with just inches to spare. Do a good job of tying it down and you will be fine. I like to stop every 75 miles or so and check on it too. I have been all over with this set up and have been fine.

I ended up hauling it to Illinois. I put a 2x10 board across the front under the tires and bought a couple stabilizer and mounted them on a 2x10. Jacked them up under the Ranger to keep it stable and tied it down the best I could. Had to put the chair in the back of the Ranger, would not fit down the hall.

Can I get a close up on how you secured your UTV, please?

With smaller toy hauler compartments your concerns will be the UTV or ATV rocking back and forth and hitting the kitchen cabinets / counter top side.
I've done side to side hooking to the pocket anchors on the floor and found they permitted front to back movement so I changed that to an X pattern front to back.

depending on your machines this may be easier done than said due to the hold down points on the UTV's In My pic earlier I was adopting the side to side which did ok but it permitted it to roll a bit ahead. I have 12 feet of space overall which affords me more forward and back clearance. in smaller units you may have inches to spare less rolling.


We were also told by sales people that the anchors are merely held in with screws and not carriage bolts with underneath the trailer washers and nuts so be careful in strapping heavier machines down.

Think my Kawasaki SxS is close to 1,800#. Luckily I don't get much movement at all. I just use 4 tie downs and ratchet it down pretty good. Usually off roading the toyhauler to get to our campsites, the anchor points have survived pretty good......so far, lol.

Thanks for the diagram. I have a 27RR with an 11' enclosed garage. I'm concerned with the ratchet straps loosening. My enclosed trailer I installed etrack and used tire bonnets. With this, I'd prefer not to. I'm thinking of an observation camera, so i can monitor the Side by Side.

Always stop after a few miles and check your straps. Usually you can get them a little tighter.
