Since you said "usually," I'll have to agree. However, it really depends on the dealer.
My parts guy at the dealership where I store my trailer has asked me to give him the opportunity to meet or beat others' prices. I get, say, CW's price plus shipping, then ask him if he can match it (or come close). Also, if it's an item I can wait on, he'll put it on a regular stock re-order and reduce my price further.
I think it is in my best interest to spend as much money with these nice folks as I can. I want them in business should I ever really need them.
If your local dealer will work with you, go there first. Don't a ssume he'll be higher, verify.

It's really tough to beat Wal Mart prices on most camping needs. I've continually checked all over, and they usually beat every body else's prices. Plus if you need to return something, just about any Wal Mart will help you out, even if you did not buy the item from that store. That said, it still pays to look around at other suppliers for special sales, and clearance items.

Another good web site is Tweetys.com. Their prices are good and have a wide selection of products.
Like others here, Walmart for the everyday items. I still have fun looking at the local dealership, getting to touch before I buy.

Dealers are a good showroom for online purchases. IMHO, their markups are insulting.

Camping World usually has good prices, and the stores will usually match their internet prices if you ask. It's always best to shop around and all the other places mentioned are quite economical. Wal-mart, Harbor Freight, and check Craigslist too! Just picked up a brand new Coleman table top BBQ grill for $40 that retails for over $80 at CW.
