Hauling bicycles

We like to ride bicycles as well as our motorcycle. How do you guys haul your bicycles? I don't want them just laying in the garage, especially if I have the Harley in there. I will typically have 2-5 bicycles (we have 5 kids) and would like to take them but need a better way to haul them.

Just looking for suggestions or if there is a thread already link me please

Hauling bicycles

I have put my bikes in back of truck bed and also in spot where second (motorcycle) would go. But I only have two and not five bikes

A front trailer hitch for your truck could house many of the bicycles. Doing something like this would only leave a couple possibly to be tied into the garage, keeping your motorcycle safer.

I've seen the front hitch pictures before. I would consider that option.

I wonder if some type of bike rack in the garage is around. Something I could strap down and not worry about the bikes moving around.

I'll try the bed of the truck as well. I tend to take firewood with me if I stay "In State" so that limits what all I can carry in the bed.

I built a quick rack out of 2x4s that holds 4 bikes upright, when we get to the wherever we are going it comes out and we use it to park/hold bikes outside as well. It holds the tires (front or rear) tight to hold the bike upright and in position. When I built it I used the bikes tires as guides on how far to space the 2x4s that hold the tires so it is a snug fit. I don't have any pics but I can take some.

I would love to see that.

I have lay up to five bikes against the rear door in our previous TH. Wedge the first two to opposite sides with the front tire in the rear corners, a couple of old moving pads between the "good" bikes and a few bungee cords to the electric bed track. I did this many times over the years.

I've seen people hang them from the walls in their garage. I don't know how though because we do not have a toy hauler.

Here are a couple, its nothing fancy but it works. I'm going to try to narrow it up some by stagering front and rear tires.

I guess it depends what your kids bikes are. I built this for my (and friends) mountain bikes. All of our bikes have quick release wheels so its easy to pop the wheels out and secure them. It held 8 bikes, but it's been revised, narrowed, and might only take 6 now. I looked at a lot of options before I decided to build my own. I really wanted to keep the wheels on but the bikes take up so much floor space that way. I don't trust the walls to hold a 33 lb bike without falling apart.

With bikes. Pics aren't that great. There's about $28k worth of bikes in these 2 pics, no way in hell any of them are going on my front bumper!

I just mounted my 3-bike carrier on my 4" rear bumper this weekend but now I'm reading that probably wasn't such a great idea because doing so could cause my bumper to fall off.

I'm going to use a rack I made out of pvc that I used for the back of my truck. I don't have pics yet since we just got the new trailer. Just google pvc bike rack. If I get a chance to get it in ill take a pic.

I have the same set up as burch42 but in Yakima. I haul 5 bikes without a problem. The benefit is that when you leave your site, the bikes are on the rack, locked and you don't worry as much as if they are in the bed of the truck. Also using the tonneau cover, keeps the rest of the gear out of the elements.

Mines a fifth wheel so the bed is basically gone. I like the idea of the pin box hitch. The mount one of the guys posted that will sit in the garage is also a good option. Keep posting up ideas though

What is this rack called? I have a similar cover and I think this would work well for me.

It's made by Thule. I think it's the 42" base. Then the rest you can talk to your local bike shop that would carry that brand. Or check out the Thule website. I can't recall what the names are for each part. I will try to dig it up for you though

Pinbox mount is easy and can hold multiple bikes. I made my rack and it would hold 4 bikes in 18" of space.

You can also check out ORS racks. I based what I needed off of their kit for a hard top jeep.
