Slide out topper

Like to have your opinion on slide out topper with protecting metal case when they close or without ? do they worth the price difference?

I personally don't find them useful. I like the sound of rain on my slides and don't like the sound of the slide toppers flapping in the wind. So, I've passed on them on all my trailers.

IMO, if there is a slide, it needs a topper awning to keep debris/water off the slide and from getting into the camper when the slide is retracted.

Our 1st camper with a slide didn't have one for about a month until we camped it the rain under some trees and got some of the water and leaves/twigs inside.

Never had any water or debris in any of my last four RV's with the slides open or closed without toppers.

We had a motor home with them and traded it for a 5er without. Each time we parked under trees I got up on a ladder to clean off the slides before putting them back in. Maybe I didn't need to. Bu I can't imagine that the sticks, acorns and leaves were helping. We just traded for a new 5er and it has the slide toppers.

I'd rather sweep before pulling them in, than listen to them flapping in the wind. But that's just me. Everyone has their own priorities.

Takes pretty high winds to make mine flop, in fact, when they flop, the whole trailer is shaking. I tightened mine up!

I have them and they don't flap. We camp beside the Great Lakes and have lots of wind. I would not be without them, this our second trailer with them as well.

The OP asked a different question than what has been answered.

I have standard toppers, not aluminum covered. I have two awnings on my trailer both aluminum covered. They make no noise when out and look good when rolled in and stowed.
