Sway bar

I am getting a new Vengeance 29v and don't know if I need a sway bar. I have a Ford 350 short bed.

You won't know for sure until you tow it. You certainly have enough truck for a 29' TT. I can tell you that it will likely tow much better and safer with a WDH with a built in sway control (like the Equalizer.) But NEED is a very strong word. I drove my first TT home from the dealer without one (also was a 29') but I was much happier with the WDH.

Yes you will need a weight distribution hitch. Max rating on the receiver is only 5k lbs without one. May not need sway bar but get a equalizer with it built in and dont worry about it. I have a f350 and went through that a few years back with a 29' wildwood

Turns out the hitch we have now isn't weighted high enough for the trailer. Our current one is only a 10000 lb with 1000 lb hitch weight. Looks like we're gonna get a beefed up Titan class V receiver and a drop hitch.

Most hitches have ratings with and without a wdh.
Guess Im a little surprised a f350 didnt have a class V on it to begin with.

Does your class 4 hitch have a wdh rating?

Ya the one we have now is 500lbs without and 1000lbs with. The new receiver is 1200 without and 1700 with. And can tow up to 14000lbs. The trailer has a 1114 hitch weight so I think upgrading would be best. Unless I understand this wrong.

And we bought our truck used. It didn't orginaly have a hitch. Last owner had the hitch and break system installed

That toy hauler is 34.5' long.

That must be an older F350.....I think the newer 1s come with increased ratings on the receivers. The receiver upgrade is an excellent idea.

In the case of toy haulers, many have really heavy tongues while empty, so that when you load the toys the tongue still stays heavy enoughto stay at least 10% of the total trailer weight.

Sound like your best to do the upgrade then. Personally, Im not a fan of big drop hitches with that much weight. Make sure that drop hitch and ball are rated to tow that much weight.

Ya ours is a 2000 F350 7.3L. We thought about getting a new truck but I'm so in love with this one

No sway bar needed. Took it 600 miles no problem from Houston TX to Kerville to Corpus Christi.
