The tires on our 2014 XLR are 2 years old now and starting to show so cracks in between the tread now, and I just don't trust the cheap factory tires. Original tire size is ST235/80r16, not sure if there is a LT tires with a 3500lbs weight rating. What's everyone's opinion?

Goodyear G614 or Sailun in the same equivalent (I forget the model).

Or, go nutty and consider 17.5" wheels + commercial trailer tires.

Agree, sailun or Goodyear. If you don't want to spend that much. Go with a LR E tire at least.

I just can't see $300 or more per tire, we don't spend that much on TV tires. And have looked at some Lt tires but can't seem to find many 16" with a load rating of 3500 lbs or more.

Go to a 235 85 16 for a LR E tire.

I just had to replace the Marathon Tires on my two year old Sanibel after two tire failures. Sailum makes two 16 inch tires that are capable of handling 4080# but they both run 110 pounds of air. They make this tire a Sailum S637 Regional trailer tire in both a ST 235/80 R16 and a ST 235/85 R16.
In my case though the OEM wheel on my unit could not handle 110 PSI and was only rated to carry 3750#. So I had to also replace the wheels in order to secure greater capacity.
Since I had to replace the wheels anyway I went the 17.5 inch wheel route and Sailum S637 215 /75 R17.5 tires.

There are zero LT235/85R16E tires that would be appropriate fitments for trailer service that have enough load capacity to qualify for your GAWR axles.

In the ST design there are the ST235/85R16E rated at 3640# @ 80 PSI, ST235/85R16F rated at 3960# @ 95 PSI and the ST235/80R16G rated at 4080# @ 110 PSI.

In the LT design there are the steel cased LT235/85R16G for trailer service that are rated at 3750# @ 110 PSI. One is made in the USA and numerous others from off shore manufacturers.

A week ago we installed our new Michelin XPS Rib 16" tires, they are 225/75R16, but they have various sizes. I think we paid $238/tire. We have had these same tires on another trailer since 2011, and have not had a single issue with them. They are load range "E" and if I recall correctly, 10-ply.
