Awning "Rope Lights" $9.95

Camping World sells rope lights $20 and up.

Home Depot has an 18' length for $9.95 and a 24' for $14.95.
Indoor/Outdoor, 54 watts and 1 bulb per inch. Find them back between the ceiling fans and lighting. I hooked them up to my homemade dimmer box and they work great!

There's always a bargain out there. Glad I waited to get mine!

Yes there is a place with no Home Depot. Where I live, we are so far back in the woods that we have to hunt towards town.

The nearest HD is 40 miles. It is now, with the price of gas, about as cheap (?) to buy at the local hardware.

How do you attach your rope lights to your awning?

You can go to Wal-Mart or your local camping store and buy a package of awning inserts, these inserts are design to slide in to the channel on the awning roller. This channel is exposed when the awning is open, and the inserts come with hooks. They all so sell what looks like double sided suspender snaps that clip to the edge of the awning.

Ok, what is this fascination with rope lights and any other lights outside an RV? I mean, that is so stupid!!! It's not like you are at a party or anything?

Opinions are all ways welcome, but they can be put in a diplomatic way, and I like those who are up front with issues, However this is the U.S.A and it's called a freedom of choice. People have all kinds of reasons why, I like It. When I camp or RVing, Its a party to me, I turn the lights on and Have a cold one or two and fellow camper are welcome to stop by.

Well, the nice thing about rope lights, among other reasons, is the awning hangs down past the roller tube, thus obscuring the rope light from shining out into the campground/wilderness and disturbing anyone. Meanwhile I can continue to cook, grill out, play dominoes or whatever past sundown. For those of us in warmer climes it's nice to quietly extend social time past sundown in the winter with their soft, bug free luminescence.

We run our rope lights on a dusk to dawn timer so they are on when we return to the camper and we can see to get in with out any mishaps. They work great for security lights also. We will be leaving ours lay on the ground beside the camper due to the fact I can no longer reach the awning on the new fiver.

Me either, once the awning is all the way up. I put mine into the roller tube slot just after unrolling the awning, before I push it up into place.

Our 5er has an electric awning and it stays out of my reach unless I take a ladder with us. I am still trying to decide if I like the awning or not because I always loved to hang my lights and flags on the awning.

How often, if at all, do any of you find it necessary to very quickly roll up the awning (like for bad weather)? For ordinary rain, I guess it would not be a problem but here in Florida, and probably in other parts of the country as well, the wind suddenly kicks up during rain events and I would feel better about getting the awning rolled up quickly when that occurs, but am I worrying for nothing? How strong are the awnings??

I keep an eye out and the weather radio on if things look the least iffy weather wise. If I have doubts, I might take the lights down in advance or just roll up the awning altogether, especially if retiring for the night and I don't want to deal with it in the middle of the night.

The rope lights will slide clear of the tube in just a few seconds, or the power cord can be detached and the lights can be rolled up in the awning, but I wouldn't store them that way long term.
