Does the FR recall simply give the Kidde number for you to call or is the replacement thru FR directly?

It is a copy of the Kidde letter. It tells you how to determine if you have a fire extinguisher covered by the recall, and if so, how to get the replacement. The fastest way to get it done, go here: https://inmarmarketaction.com/kidde/

Best to use the previously identified web site. Very easy process. They will want the old extinguisher returned. Pre-paid return label and instructions enclosed with the new extinguisher. Important to call to schedule a pick-up and not drop at Fed-EX office.

They actually suggest you return the old one but several of us got replacements that are not the same size and won't fit in the return box.
Kidde really doesn't care if you return the old one or not.
How you dispose of it is up to you.
Me- I'm probably going to put on face shield and heavy gloves and
just discharge it.
That's easy for me to say because I already have grinders face shield and welding gloves! I realize most folks don't have those.

I'm not telling you to do that but that's my plan.

We received our new one a couple of months ago and will not see the trailer for a couple of months (at least until March) so we have no way to return it until Spring.......

We received the Forest River Recall about a week ago.

The recall started some time ago, yes ........ Forest River just sent out many of the huge number of notices ............ but who knows when Forest River was notified .... could have been just recently ???

I just found out the an extinguisher that I own, that was manufactured in 1979 was part of an earlier recall by kidde. So I got it replaced under this recall as well.

Just looked at mine and it is not a Kidde. Its a First Alert made by Contents Manufacturer, Ansul Fire Protection, BRK Brands, a Jarden Corporation.
So I guess I am ok.

I'll bet FR got notified when the original public announcement was made. I wonder if FR is legally required to notify everyone or if they are doing it as a good faith, customer support issue. Any lawyers out there with an opinion?

Not a lawyer and didn’t stay at a holiday inn express last night but...

Probably the same as food recalls. With all the discount cards etc they know who bought what but I think we have only received a couple food recall notices over the years. The rest we either heard about in television, radio, etc.

Most likely not a legal requirement for them to do the notification but sometimes it is just the right thing to do.

Probably just the manufacturer that is “legally” required to notify.

Just my thoughts though.

Just got my letter from FR today regarding the recall. Unfortunately I have to brave the snowdrifts at the storage lotto check & see if mine is part of the recall. I'm guessing it is.

We have two trailers. The other one is a Keystone, and I got a letter from them yesterday. Based on that, I checked the extinguisher in our Flagstaff and found that it's also covered by the recall. I called Kidde and they agreed to replace it...no hassle. I had not been aware of the recall before the Keystone letter.

I'm not a lawyer but the first line of the letter states "This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safer Act. Forest River has determined that a defect" exists in certain model year 2002-2018 Forest River vehicles.

Our 2016 FR3 30DS had a recall Extinguisher so I filled out the paperwork on line about 10 days ago, and received my replacement today. Thanks for all the information on the Recall.

FedEx won't pick these up at least in most places. We had to take ours to the local FedEx retail office. Not sure why since they still have to go into the truck, but they must have a reason.

I called the FedEx number listed in the instructions and they picked it up from my house....different truck than the standard delivery truck that drops off our packages.
