I think the easy solution would be to take a pc of 3/4" plywood and build a small standup bike rack. Put rubber pads on the bottom and carry them inside the trailer. No possiblility of theft, no extra hitch, etc.

Everyone has a legal dept. these days. With as sue happy everyone is, it's mandatory. I am sure they were getting lawsuits or too many warranty call ins for the rear bumper breaking off with too much weight on it (200-300 lbs isn't that hard to exceed) so they just nixed them entirely.

We will be getting our SV291 in June and were wondering about installing a bike rack to the rear of the TT or using a dual hitch. The dual hitch makes me worry though.....
I can hardly wait for someone from FR to respond!

My advice is to be careful with dual hitch receivers and understand the ratings limitations. Most of these reduce the overall tongue weight allowed and none (that I know of) will allow a weight distribution hitch to be used.

Put the bikes inside the trailer and enjoy life!

I Tow my 5er with a 1/2 ton and doing fine with it. I was asking for a solution for the much talked about topic of bike carriers and suggested the manufacturers take heed. I purchased a FR for various reasons and nobody twists this guys arm. Quite capable of making a decision on my own. But when I do make a purchase of this magnitude , I have some expectations. I do not have the means to rebuild and modify my camper, nor do I have time. I save that for camping. So, what I have been doing, is loading the 2 bikes in the truck bed, as the weight of the spare tire mounted to the rear bumper, by the manufacturer, tore the welds off from the bumper. Pic attached:

We just talked about getting fork mounts and installing them on a 2x8 to keep the bikes upright and figuring a way to put it all in the camper. A little more brainstorming and we should be able to do it without damaging anything. Everything else looks a little too questionable. I appreciate all the input. We certainly reached this decision about 10x faster with all of the extra help!

i've been using fork mounts on a 2x4 for years.
and Triguy is correct. you can't use those dual-hitch receivers with a WDH.
about the only setup you could use it with, would be towing a popup or teardrop-style trailer that wouldn't need a WDH and had a very light tongue weight.

it would help knowing what you're towing with.
what Vrmhw-m is talking about, is to mount one or more of these to a piece of 2x4, 2x6 or 2x8:

What about a clamp on system over your battery on the tongue? Mount a bar up and over the battery/propane tanks. Might add a bit of tongue weight, but if you have room to add some, shouldn't be a big amount.
Now if it is a 5'er (or even a TT i guess), maybe a roof rack on the RV? I have seen people put kayaks on their rooves. you would probably want to design it so they lay as flat to the roof as possible, though, or you might have some fun underpasses. lol
Just some brainstorming. May or may not be feasible, but you gotta think outside the box to come around to a good solution sometimes.

Wow, this is quite the thread. Some of you are really stirred up!
I've used the bolt on type of receiver hitch on several trailer bumpers. Never seen a bumper too flimsy to not hold a few hundred pounds from a bike rack or storage platform. Most RV's already carry a spare tire bolted on there, so there is some capacity to carry a load.
What I have watched out for is the quality of the welding I see from frame to bumper. That appears to be all over the place, as most workers doing this are relatively unskilled. I'd much rather see a bolted connection between frame and bumper, but that of course is more expensive. So whatever you do, you need to apply some common sense and keep an eye on things and keep weight down. 600 lbs of firewood on a platform attached to a bumper hitch is not a good idea!
I think that some manufacturers have had claims from poor welds that separated, so the lawyers just say "stop having hitches!" Easy problem solved - who cares what customers want?
BTW, when I was looking at Surveyors, their website says designed to be towed my minivans. What minivan can tow a 3200lb trailer (dry) with nearly 400lbs tongue weight (their smallest trailer)? Exactly none.

They are not going to like this either...
I talked to a guy on Monday who was pulling a Rockwood 5er and he had a bolt on receiver on his bumper that was also tied to the frame with 3 bikes on it, he also said he tows a small trailer with 2 quads and has been doing it for 4 years with no problems.
