Now I've gone and done it. Finally.

Having grown weary of holding the record for number of days participating in several RV forums while not actually OWNING an RV....

This morning about 10:00 am Eastern Time we placed an order with deposit for a Rockwood 8280SS 5th wheel with RVWholesalers. The sales guy said the order will go to the factory this afternoon and the wait time for "out the factory door" is 55 - 60 calendar days. Should have it in time do get in a little camping before Sweet Wife returns to her teaching duties.

Now I gotta get a hitch!!

And since this is the RV Economics forum, they were $7399 under MSRP!

And being on all those forums, including this one, has saved me untold hassle and a whole lot of money!

Ummm. yeah sorta. The HF is a Kenwood TS-570, 9 bands 100 watts out. That gets shared with the house, I'm not buying another one. $$$$$ I have a VHF/UHF mobile left over from upgrading one of our cars, and that will go in permanently. The cool thing is they both run on 12 vdc, no shore power needed. I/we chose this floorplan because Sweet Wife likes the kitchen and I like the space in front of the picture window for a radio set up!

Ahhh, well, to be honest....no.

But between the good deal and the big down payment the balance isn't too bad, the trailer and the truck will be paid off in no time. A good friend of ours nearly died several times last month due to heart attacks. He's our age (young 50's) I thought I'd like to start RV'n NOW, while we both still can.

So now I have two things not paid for: the truck and the trailer. But we'll knock those out pretty quick and have all that money to CAMP with!!

My Dh and I had that same thought - we probably should have waited to get the TT, but we're in our 40's and we wanted to be able to get all the fun out of RVing we can now while we're still young. Plus, my step-daughter is 10 years old and we won't have much camping time with here once she hits hte teenage years...LOL

Congrats Radio!
I hope you saved some money for fuel!
I'm in our trailer right now, typing this on my Q, sitting in my Lazy-boy with a cruise brochure on my lap. (guess what I'm doing with the stimulus checks!)
Keep us posted on your adventure!

To begin. a big congratulations on the decision and purchase. I know you'll enjoy it.

But what you said about your friend and the problem with waiting until later to do things you want to do reminds me of a friend of mine who wanted a sailboat.. Dreamed of it and the day he could afford it. Then he was diagnosed with cancer. He beat it, but the day he received his last radiation treatment he and his wife went out and bought the C&C 30 that he dreamed of. He named her "The Now" because he learned that that is what you should live in.

The moral of the story is we should name our travel trailers. Friggin boaters shouldn't have all the fun.

By the way, he also discovered he can't sail worth a crap and bought a motorhome.

We're getting a dishwasher and a set of tires for Sweet Wifes van. That will leave about $350 for gas for the trip to RVW.

This is long over due for sure. The original intent was to pay cash for the trailer. Instead we just got a good deal and made a sizable down payment. My buddy Dave Ramsey would be upset, but he's not camping with us, anyway! This is no budget buster since my total debt reduction budget each month is about what our tithe is equal to. Our house is paid for.

I hope I can tow better than your friend sails!!

Thumbs up UPDATE: Got hitched today!

Went to the hitch shop today and did pretty well I think on a Reese 16K hitch and an 18K round tube slider. That should keep an 8K trailer firmly attached to the truck.

The handle is inverted and the hitch is in the "manuver" (as opposed to "tow") position so the bed cover will close. And like Minnie Pearl's hat, it still has the tag on it.

Timbrens were installed last week. There's a growing pile of camper stuff in the basement. Cleaned up some old storage totes and a couple of folding chairs that had been collecting dust in the garage.

Now this whole camper thing is getting to be quite real...assuming a 60 day delivery clock, then we have 44 days to go.
