A leak or wet canvas?

Hello,

I just bought a 2008 Rockwood Roo 23SS--I noticed on both bunk ends that the particle board is swollen in spots all the way across on the ledge where the canvas sits when the ends are folded up.

I noticed this before we had some rain. I have checked after rain and none of the mattresses feel wet or anywhere else around the door and the ledge is dry.

Is this possibly from previous damage and the owner fixed it or possibly condensation or the owner putting away canvas wet?

If the ends were to leak with the bunk ends closed, I assume it would be pretty obvious, but just making sure the leaks are not like a "silent killer".

Thanks!

Yes, it sounds like the board was wet in the past and swelled to its current condition. This does not sound like the previous owner fixed anything so (short of asking him what happened), you're guesses are good - either previous water intrusion, condensation or put away wet. The biggest threat is water intrusion, so you would do well to examine all of the seals on the roof and around the bunk and touch up with Dicor LAP sealant as needed.

Cool-I have some other issues the dealer is taking care of--maybe more on those for another thread. :-)

I assume if I were getting water now, this is something I would notice like wet mattresses or around the inside seals?

Thanks!

You are probably good if you don't have wet seals or mattresses. But, water can be a funny thing and leaks can sometimes be terribly hard to trace to their source. Again, its good the mattresses are not wet but just wanted you to know that sometimes its not obvious.
