Bunk ends and babies/toddlers

Does anyone use their hybrid with a baby or toddler? Our 21BD should be ready in about six weeks and while we're anxious to use it, we are a bit worried about sleeping arrangements for our 18-month old. Any clever solutions to prevent falls from the beds? Or should we just use the dinette bed or even a pack and play?

Those rails that slip under a mattress should work really well, especially considering your bd has walls halfway across.

That said, If I was back at that stage I would probably just use myself as a barrier.

Had my 22 year old fall out of our pup bunk when he was 15 mo old. Back then, they were bungee'd on the sides. Fortunately we were camping near the ocean and the ground was soft sand. Yours should be permanently attached. What you can do is get one of those mattress bed gates and put one of the table cushions in the floor. Or, use the table since is is very low to the floor.

PS...yes we did read the manual and he was sleeping on the U shaped couch bed with the mattress rail. We brought a teen sitter with us who was sleeping in the bunk and she thought she was helping when he was fussing in the middle of the night.

We use a pack and play for our 17mo old even though we have extra bunk. It keeps him from getting up and getting into things he shouldn't

Swing down bed rail. They have a 56" one as well.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Guess I'm a bit worried that she could stand up against the rail and tip over it. She is tall enough that she is now on her lowest crib setting, and I usually walk in to her room to see her standing up.

If you use a bed rail that goes under the mattress, you'd better screw it to the deck under the mattress. Those rails rely on the weight of the mattress to hold back the baby - bunk mattresses don't weigh anything...

When my guys were little we used these during travel: PeaPod Plus Baby Travel Bed from One Step Ahead | 2U32017 Didn't have a camper back then, but I think they would fit well on top of the bunks. My kids never rolled the pod over, but if you're concerned about that, I think you could secure the high point of the pod to a screw eye on the ceiling. They are extremely compact and set up quickly. The mesh zipper cannot be opened from within the tent.

When my kids were older, we used foam wedges under the bunk mattress to keep the boys from rolling out of the bunks.

We used a large pool noodle for our 3 year old, but she ended up sleeping with me so I can't really say oh well it worked.

If it's a new hybrid it's probably ok. Our 2010 had the snaps under the outside of the ends. Our dog fell right outside in the middle of the night. The dinette would be safer.

My daughter has a two year old. She puts a pack and play on the dinette-folded down without cushions. When my children were small, we used one of those bed guards that slips under the mattress. It is so great having an rv when your children are small. Each night, they go to bed in the same place-routine is everything with the little ones.

Thank you all for the advice. Might try a pack and play, but she has hardly ever been in one.
