Need Advice on New Hybrid

My wife and I recently sold our worn out popup and are looking at hybrids, specifically the Shamrock/Roo 183. We have a '18 Toyota 4 Runner as a TV and are confident it can safely pull a 183 with a WDH and BC. We found the model with options we want about 3 hrs away and they are willing to sell a 2018 Roo 183 with several options (15K ducted air, power tongue, heated mattresses, etc.) for $20K plus tax, and that includes a WDH plus installation.

We both have a couple of concerns about the process.

1) My wife is concerned that because it's a 2018 model it's sat on their lot for several months exposed to the elements and what impacts that could have on the overall condition of the unit. She wonders if we should wait until a new 2019 becomes available nearby.

2) I'm concerned that we may not find another one this close to us with all the options we want. I called the SE regional sales reps for both Rockwood and Flagstaff and they BOTH said that VERY few 183s are delivered to the SE. Of course the dealership assures me that the 2018 they have is in perfect condition and that they inspect them regularly.

Any thoughts or advice?

Hello,

When we purchased our 2018 233s in June last year it was fairly new so any 2018 has sat for a while as the 2019's are already out...they should be able to do better on price as a couple 2019 183's on RV Trader are around 20k.

I thought so on the price too, but not many are as well equipped. And would you be concerned about the condition of an '18 that has sat on the lot for 6-8 months?

Thumbs up

I think if they have kept it closed up you will be fine, check the roof, tents and awning for any deterioration and make your call from there. They changed the 2019's to a light grey exterior from the white/oyster so see what the Boss likes better.

I would have NO CONCERNS about it sitting.....just think, where are YOU going to park it once you own it...inside a monster garage, or out in the weather?

I agree with dodr33....if it HAS been there 6-8 month's work them on price, depending on how you are paying (if you bring your own cash or check from your own loan) you can most likely get them to come down lower on price too!

As a slightly pissed off owner of an ‘18 Roo 183 I feel I should point out that the ‘19s have a significantly higher payload capacity due to Forrest River putting a set of real axles under it. Although the lower rating may work in your favor due to your tow vehicle, I would want the high payload. I would think your limiting factor on the TV will be the tongue weight.

I think we payed 21,500 for ours last June so I would try and work a better number.

Check for warps in bunk ends

My 2009 Roo was set up when we bought it used. I didn't see that the back bunk end had some water damage until I got it home. The rain gutter over the bunk ends is a joke (maybe they have upgraded since 2009). I replaced mine with roof flashing that sticks out about 2 inches. Much better. Condensaton can form under your bed and rot out the bunk end. Make sure you inspect that area. I've never used the heated beds. The mattress is so bad that we put some eggcrate foam over it to make it work. That extra insulation sort of negates the heated bed.

Anyone have an opinion on buying from Camping World? Most of the negative stuff I’ve read is about after the sale issues. If we bought from CW it’d be several hours away and wouldn’t depend on t for service.
