I never worried about gassing my TV with the gas fridge on. There must be literally thousands of RV owners fueling up every day with their fridge on.

Gasoline vapors are heavier than air so they would, if they could, have be raised up to the level of your fridge gas pilot light and not only that in a sufficient density to ignite. I guess there is the possibility it could happen.

Just think about it next time you are filling your vehicle and smell the air. For there to be enough gas fumes to ignite there would have to be a very noticeable gas smell. When was the last time you pulled into a busy station did you think, Boy, it sure smells gassy? I don't ever recall that but I can sometimes say, It sure smells like Diesel... LOL

Back in the mid 1990's while on a trip to Florida, the fan blade came off the water pump and went into the radiator while going through Georga. We rented a car and continued our trip. Picked up the MH on the way back home a week later after the repairs were done at a GM garage. Refrigerator on gas stayed on the whole time while being worked on. Never lost any of the things in the refrigerator or freezer.
Most times we leave the refrigerator on gas instead of switching over it seemed to work better on gas.
We use to do the same thing when we had a tt and now as soon as I figure why my gas isn't flowing on the new to us MH, I'll be using the gas on it.

Yea, I guess it can happen especially when you turn the gas nozzle on before you stick it in the tank and spray it all over the fridge area.

You are right about the class B though as the gas tank is close to the fridge. Actually the gas tank is close to everything.

I was not taking class B's or human error into account in my post earlier. I was talking TT. But you can't control what goes on around you. Might as well leave it parked in the driveway..

What about the venting of the fridge on a 23IKSs since it is on a slide out? Doesn't the slide need to be out to vent during travel if you leave the propane on?

The Alaska Marine Highway System state-owned ferries not only don't allow RV gas to stay on while underway, they inspect and seal every propane tank on every RV while they are waiting to board. You can only visit your RV during port calls, primarily to feed, water, and walk your pets (which must be left in the RV during sailing), and the gas must remain off during that time too. The crew does routine inspections during sailing and a broken seal can mean a stiff fine.

The ferry from Bellingham, WA to Ketchikan, AK is 37 hours sailing time plus several hours on each end to load and unload. This multi-day ferry ride or even just an all-nighter from, say, Skagway to Sitka could be costly if an RV owner hasn't planned for it in advance. Most knowledgeable RVers try to eat or give away anything that might spoil and pack dry ice in the freezer if they can't get use up all the frozen food before boarding.

But if you just had some ice cream left in the freezer and couldn't find dry ice, the ferry staff would probably be glad to help you make sure it didn't thaw during the trip. Especially if you provide the cups and spoons!

Propane is always on for the fridge. Also I leave it on in the winter to run the furnace so things don't freeze up when I'm heading south.

Question: I would like to use my propane to cool my fridge the night before I leave for a 4 hour trip. Do I need my battery hooked up to precool my fridge if I have my fridge set on auto? I have dual tanks, so if I run out of propane it should automatically switch over.

Yes. The fridge controls and igniter run off 12v

If you're hooked up to shore power, why would you precool with propane when you have 110v AC power?
Save the propane and use it for enroute if you want.

I have my camper in storage so no shore power is available. Does the pilot flame ever go out during travelling if I decide to leave the propane on?

Sure. I like my ice cream frozen. Exhaust is far far away from gas tank while fueling.

Much farther than the knuckle heads you still occasionally see smoking at the gas pump. Or gassing up a can in the back of the truck.

I always leave it on.

We have Propane water heater, clothes dryer, and boiler in our home...we don't turn off our residential LP while not home. It makes no sense to turn off the camper LP either.

Ditto...16 years with ZERO problems.

You're going to have more problems with tires or plumbing or furniture or electrical than propane over the course of your RVing life.
