Raining in my bunk ends... Help

So we took our maiden voyage this weekend and of course it's raining in the northeast. All night we were getting sprinkled and dripped on in our beds. The tent surface above us (not the seams) is wet. Can't tell if the material is weeping or it's a hell of a lot of condensation. Any ideas or thoughts? Help.

How old is your unit? Have the canvases been seasoned?

Brand new 2014 - this is our first trip. Haven't done anything to her other than stock her and go.

The canvasses have to "season" in order for the little seem holes to close up. They need to be completely soaked and dried a few times. There should have been some information that came with your rig about the proper care for your canvasses.

I may have goofed then. But still... This moisture is not on the seems. It's the canvas itself overhead where there are no seams.

It could be condensation. Are you running your heater? Have you checked windows for it? Try cracking a window slightly.

On our hybrid that we just moved up from which was a Wildwood, it was common on cooler nights with heat on and body heat to get condensation build up on the inside of the tent. I had this most times with ours even when it was not raining but just a cool night. What did help some was to use the bunk fan/light that came with the trailer to move the air around. Never caused any issues otherwise and I would always wipe it down with a towel in the morning and then make sure the fan was on to dry it up.

I'm thinking it may be condensation. It was in the low 40s last night and we had the heater running at 70°. No windows were open. I am seeing condensation on the windows of the camper so I'm guessing that's what it is. I have my ceiling fan running right now trying to air it out.

Condensation on bunk ends.

Try using "Pop up Gizmo". Install silver side down in cold weather and silver side up in hot weather. Eliminates condensation concerns in the colder weather. Just google them. Excellent company to deal with.

We have a 2013 Rockwood Roo and were told at our Demo to keep the Fantastic fan on low and that would eliminate the condensation issue. Haven't had a problem yet.

How do you keep the camper warm though? Doesn't the heat just shoot right out the fan?

We always have our two vents open and a window slightly unzipped if that bed is being slept in. The cross breeze is the best way to control the condensation.

Its no problem keeping the camper reasonably warm at night with outside temps in the forties using just the heater, but you will find pugs will help a lot in that situation. Also, the heater is a little noisy so you can consider something quieter if it keeps you up at night with its cycling on and off.

And, of course, use your heated mattresses if you have electric and heavier sleeping bags.

From my experience, it is condensation. Lucky for me, I only have one tent bunk. What I did to relieve it, turn the Fan-Tastic on, and just unzip the window on top just a bit. Because you have 2 bunks, you may want to crank the Fan-Tastic to #2 or #3, and/or think of putting a fan in your 2nd roof vent. If it is like mine, the wire is already there.

in your owner's manual would've been paperwork from the canvas manufacturer, T.J. Snuggles, advising to pre-wet the canvas to allow the threads in the seams to swell and then dry, to fill the holes in the seams.

condensation is what you have and you need to allow for air movement and get PUGs or the generic 5x7 solar blankets that are made from the same stuff.

doing those two things will virtually eliminate condensation. PUGs are the #1 Hybrid mod.

Not sure where you are camping and how cold it gets. We have camped in the upper 30's. We have a small electric heater that we run for a bit just before we go to sleep to heat it up and dry things out. Once we get into our sleeping bags (with the fan on low) we are pretty toasty and no condensation. I think it's probably a matter of keeping the air circulating to keep things dry. Good Luck!

Change in lat... I too went on my maiden voyage with my Ikss. Of course it rained The whole time camping and we had water seeping through our tent ends too. To me it seemed more like the canvas wasn't conditioned yet more than a condensation issue though. Let me tell you it got plenty wet this weekend so I'm hoping that next time it rains when I'm camping it won't leak through like it did this weekend.

My wife And I saw a tag in the camper talking about getting it wet a few times... Lets hope so...

I hope so as well... It was a good weekend nonetheless. Just a little too damp and chilly. Didn't take many pics, but here's a couple. Love that grill.

It rained again on me this weekend and guess what... Didn't leak through. You should be good next time out in rain. You'd think if it needs to be done they could "season" the tent material at the factory... Oh well
