Repair on Bunk End Question?

Dear Campers,

I am new to this site, but not new to camping. I just upgraded from a popup to a 2006 Roo 183. Anyway, we just picked the camper up a few weeks ago off an individual and this weekend while putting stuff away in it discovered some wood rot along the hinge area of the front bunk. I am mad as heck at myself for overlooking it, I checked the camper over well, but missed this.

Anyway, I have done repaires before on my old popup and am not new to repairs either. My question with this repair is whether the core in the door is adhered to fiberglass panel? I already talked to Forest River and they are willing to send the repair kit and can send me a new door core as well. However, I am just wondering if it will be difficult to switch out? Could it be as easy as just lifting out the old core and putting in the new core?

If anyone has done this, please let me know.

first, this should be moved to the Expandable section here, since your issue is a Hybrid-specific problem.

as far as i know, the bunk end door comes in one piece. you take off the metal frame around the old one and put it around the new one. use silicone around the edges.

your bigger issue will be the hinge area. you may have to replace some rotted wood before you put a new hinge on. and you should replace the seals, too.

this area is the #1 area to check on used hybrids. i wish you had visited any of the Hybrid forums, to about what to check for. you would have been told by all to check that area first.

i suggest you ask a similar question about front bunk door/hinge replacement on RV.net Hybrid forum or Hybrid Explorer Forum's Repair section.
this is not just an issue with FR hybrids but with every brand. this has been more of an issue with older hybrids.

if you search the Expandable section, someone posted detailed instructions with pictures, for the job you're planning to do.

Hi, just a question for you, You are obviously not the first owner of this Roo. I am in the same situation, I am the second owner of my roo and my bunk is rotting. Forest River said they would do nothing for me as I am not the first owner. How did you do this?

If the foam hasn't delaminated from the exterior fiberglass, you can fix it without too much trouble. Hopefully bilkendan will post the link. I've seen the photos of this repair and it's not that bad. Essentially you need to replace the luan on the inside of the bunk door (under the vinyl) after removing the portion that's bad. Removing the frame and cleaning and resealing (with proper sealant) when putting it back together will have it good to go.

We are the third owner of our Roo. The first thing we did in June was cut out the rotting, wet portion of the front and read bunk doors. I have photos to show our repair.

Has anyone removed the bunk end door? I have a 2005 Shamrock 25BH there is a rubber seal at the base of the door that is covering access to the hinge. How do you remove the rubber? Any help would be appreciated.
