Driving up the side of the mountain is hair raising. Down is worse. Done it twice.
Yes sir it was, that is one narrow and steep road! People do not necessarily like to share the road. It was funny to watch the faces of people coming on thw oposite direction. What a view it was!
Did Mt Washington drive once, never again, never saw any of the scenery either directions, to scared to look away from the road. Also hard on the brakes and transmission, had to stop half way down to let the brakes cool down. Take the Cog Railroad then you can enjoy the scenery, now my preferred way to get to the top.

Did Pikes peak. 14000 feet. Left the trailer at Garden of the gods campground. They have signs and notices all over the place to keep the gears low and not use your brakes. They have you stop half way Down and take a temp reading of your front brakes, then wave you on or make you wait and cool them down. The truck with its towing ratio rear end and geared down would hold the speed real well without riding the brakes.

Ya same for mt washington. I had to pull drivers side mirror in and use low gear all the way up and down. Grade braking worked great. Buyt at some points my stomach was in my throat! LOL. Amazing view. Can't wait to go back to the area.
Went up 19 years ago and will never drive that road again. I put it my 95 F150 in 4 LO using 2nd gear and still had to use the brakes now and then. We were back last summer and did the train which was pretty cool.
Some pics I dug up. I did not have a pic of the truck on top of pikes peak. But 2 of the pics are pikes peak and the other a pic of the truck on top of a hill. No longer have that one but....
If i remember correctly, the road to top of Mt Washington is at least half the width of the road in your pictures CanadianCrew. Of course i was in such a state of trauma from doing the drive my recollection may be skewed a little! Nice view from the road in your shots!

It is paved all the way to the top now. They took 2+ minutes off the record in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb the first year with the asphalt
