Towing your Roo

Hi All,

I'm looking at a Rockwood Roo 21SS. I want to tow it with a Chevy Astro 4.3 6 cyl. Is this do-able?

My first TT was 4350 dry and we pulled it with a S-10 4.3 with a 3.42 gear locally. It felt ok, but you should be even better. I hear the Astro has the true 1/2 ton truck brakes and rear axle.

What gear do you have?

Specs on the trailer you mentioned as follows
Dry Weight 3288lbs (1491 kg)
GVWR 4719lbs (2141 kg)
Cargo Capacity N/A
Hitch Weight 319lbs (145 kg)
Axle Weight 2969lbs (1347 kg)
Exterior Height 9.33' (2.84 m)
Exterior Length 21.75' (6.63 m)
Exterior Width 7.50' (2.29 m)
Interior Height 6.50' (1.98 m)
Fresh Water
Gray Water
Black Water 31gal (117.3 L)
25gal (94.6 L)
25gal (94.6 L)
Awning Size N/A

Astro/Safari towing Roo

Thanks for your help. I just bought a Safari with the towing package and it is geared 3.73. Now the questions about hitches will start

I can attest to the Equal-i-zer WD hitch. For the price, you can't beat the quality and performance.

Thanks for the advice and the URL. I found a dealer here in Hamilton Ontario.

Packing the Tow vehicle

OK, more questions about towing. Bear in mind I've been driving a C-Class motorhome the last 15 years, and loading wasn't an issue.
When I load the van (Safari), I keep the heavy weight off the very back? and the weight off of the hitch area in the front of the trailer? I travel with 4-6 Bearded Collie dogs and will have dog show paraphenalia. Would it be better to put some weight in a roof top carrier?
Thanx,
Kelly

21ss

I have a 21SS(07) and have towed it with a Dakota 3.9 V6.
Equalizer is a MUST as it sway control.
We now tow it with a crew cab Silverado (Dakota died after 209k miles).

Good luck with the trailer.
We love ours .
