Under mattress condensation
Has anyone really found a fix for condensation under the bunk ends? I thought once things warmed up outside it would go away, but every morning I have to lift our sons mattress on his bunk end to let it dry out.
I have tried some of that reflectix insulation under the mattress (this stops the bunk wall from getting wet but there is still moisture between the insulation and mattress).
I have tried those playmats (the foam puzzle type things) along with the reflectix insulation.
I just bought a foam mattress topper to try on his bed as well (will give that a try next time out). Our son is 9, doesn't weigh a lot, but is a little heater all in himself. He gives off a lot of heat.
I fixed the problem on my end as I found the mattress a bit thin so I bought a blowup mattress and add that to the top of my end.
We have a 2014 Surveyor 192T.
Thanks, James.

These ain't cheap but a lot of boaters in an environment that produces LOTS of condensation swear by their Froli's:

Thanks. They look good, but think it would be a pain to have to set up every time as even with just the thin reflectix pads under the mattress, I found it tighter for closing the beds up. But maybe there is something like that out there that I can put under then take out quicker. I shall look.

I am amazed to hear of this problem. We had a trailite Bantam for many year and never had any problems with condensation on the mattress even though most of our camping was in the Canadian Rockies where night time temps would drop down close to freezing. On occasions we would wake up with slight condensation on the inside of the bunk ends. We found the best cure for this was to lease one of the window flats slightly open. This was a trick we learned in our many years of tenting.
Hope this helps

Some brands of hybrids have mattresses with vinyl bottoms, while other brands have ones with fabric bottoms, like FR's.
The fabric ones seem to have this issue more than the vinyl ones.

Thanks Tim. The problem is only directly under where we sleep. My son doesn't move around much when he sleeps so in the morning, I know exactly where it will be wet.
I learned about letting airflow in to take care of condensation on the tent ends inside, but this is actually under the mattress.

I think you are right.
I think I have to try something to get a little airflow under the mattress.

I don't think I have this issue, but I use a 3 inch topper.

Do you put this on top of the mattress, or under?
We are driveway camping this Friday and I picked up a foam mattress topper on sale so will try that as well.

You can turn the mattress over and put the mattress heater on low.

Didn't get a chance to try the blanket. From what I was told, that blanket is a really old blanket from the Hudson Bay Company and my wife's youth. Off limits for testing if it will stop moisture build up under the bunk :-).

Don't have a mattress heater on this trailer.

Are popup campers meant for people over 60 with the amount of time and physical labor for set up and takedown?

Hybrid Travel Trailers are NOT popups.
They require less setup time and less physical labor than a popup does.
We've had ours for nearly 8 years and I'm 60 years old.

My wife and I are in our sixties and we purchased our first hybrid in July, set up is no more work than our previous 32' TT. we were prompted to buy a hybrid because of an 84 year old friend who has one and loves it. Because of this forum we have been able to head off some of the unique hybrid issues. This is true camping.
