upgrade on tv

I was reading all the facts on here about tv and their ratings so I did a little reserch and I was going to be at my tow max or over . So I took the plunge and traded in my 2007 dodge dakota 4.7 v8 crewcab 4x4 and Bought a 2006 chevy Avalanche witha 5.3 v8 crewcab 4x4 with a 4.10 rear end. I am pulling a 2013 23ikss 5100 dry weight and 6500 gross. It will arrive next week! Cant wait!

with that 4.10 rear end, you should be just fine.
i pull my 23SS with the newer AFM 5.3 and a 3.73 rear end and i've had no issues pulling through numerous mountain ranges.
plenty of power and can maintain the speed limit.

Thanks all I was worried about the other truck I had It is good to know that I will be ready to go with the Avalanche. BTW what kind of mpg do you get towing? Thanks

Congrats. I just got the call that my 2013 ikss is in as well... Going to sign papers tonight. I tow with a 2004 silverado 5.3 v8 - curious on gas mileage as well. Towing my old popup used to get me around 9 - 10 mpg, I'm guessing I'll be 8-9 with the ikss.

Congrats on your new truck man!!! That will tow better than the Dakota. I am jealous of all these new TVs out there. But, I am happy that I have something that can tow my trailer and able to go out camping.

towing mpg is just like anyone else towing with a gasser: 8-12mpg.

Just a note about Dodge trucks that a close friend told me a few years ago when he had a dodge truck. The trailer that he has is a 2005 Jayco Jayflight 32' TT with two slides which is approx. 5260 GDW and 7800 lbs GVWR (the numbers I use were from my old trailer which was a 2001 Fleetwood Prowler 32' TT). He towed for a couple of years and then all of a sudden he had trouble with his transmission. When he took it to the Dodge dealer up the street from where we live, a good friend of his who actually replaced his transmission told him that Dodge trucks are known to have undersized torque converters which cause the transmission to fail on trucks that tow a lot. Apparently Dodge is aware of that and it's not known to the general public due to the fact that they want to sell trucks and at this time I don't know if they have corrected their issue. He traded that truck shortly after and got a Ford F250 diesel that he had for a few years and now he has a 2010 Chevy 2500HD. I used to have a 1994 Chevy 1500 Ext. Cab P/U after market tyranny cooler with the standard 3:42, that I had until 2008 that I traded in and I got a killer deal on the one I now have when the price of gas was in the $4 range. Too bad Chevy has discontinued the truck that I have as I know they were not that popular, I guess when it's time to replace I'll have to go to a Chevy 2500HD. Congratulations on the new truck.

Not only Dodge, but Jeeps. The CRDs are known for torque converter failures and issues. Jeep's response to Torque Converter shutldder.... Derate the engine and move the shift points a little higher in RPMs.

I had never heard that about Dodge trucks...Sounds like I traded at a good time! I am looking forward to pulling and not the scared look that I see from some of the rigs I have seen. Thanks for all the input I really likr the opinions on here most are down to earth.

Yep, Dodge trannys had a bad run for a while. I had a 96 2500HD... didn't tow much with it but had a truck camper on it. Had the tranny rebuilt at about 150k.

I believe the newer Rams ( 2010 model year ) are much improved.
