Wish us luck - just wrapping up negotiations

We're down to the wire on negotiating on a 233S.

We've got four quotes from RVD, RVW and two local dealers (A Roo and a Shamrock).

Now I'm in the process of letting them each know where the others sit with their quotes.

All good fun.

What I always do, is get the single best price. Take that do the Dealer and tell them, Make me buy this RV from you? You put them on the spot, especially with they say they can beat anybodys price.
Good Luck

That's just about what happened - except over the phone. In summary, the negotiations went like this ...

The lowest price was RVD on a Roo 233S and they wouldn't/couldn't go any lower. This included delivery to my house and an Equal-i-zer hitch.

The next three were RVW w/delivery, local Shamrock dealer and then local Roo dealer. Each quoting me the trailer with the hitch. They were all high.

I emailed RVW and they came down to + $199 above RVD.

I liked those two quotes and waited for calls from the two local guys.

The local Roo dealer (actually the owner) called back and came down to + $1,164 above RVD. They wouldn't deal anything more worth pursuing.

I did not get a callback from my local Shamrock guy, which was a problem as I like the dealer's service guys and their quality of work in the past.

More importantly, my wife was really set on a specific decor with the Shamrock. She normally just hints about these things but she was pretty adamant and she made sure I understood.

Also, we had delayed making this purchase too long already and I wanted to get this order in for the start of the season up here.

So I broke down and called the Shamrock dealer first and explained the quotes to them. The salesman said he'd get back with me, which he did two hours later when they came down to + $929 above RVD.

That was still too much as I wasn't really willing to pay that much more just to buy from a local dealer, which I told him. So, I asked for some more off the price. He needed to get back with me on this one and check with the owner.

I got a callback a couple of hours later and...

(drum roll please)

We agreed on a price that was + $443 above RVD. I signed the paperwork and put down a small deposit that night.

I think this is what I call a "fair" deal. We were able to order the Shamrock 233S in the decor my wife liked , our price was reasonable relative to the out-of-state guys and we buy from a local dealer with a service center that I like.

And - I still feel good about this the next day.

I wish it was in stock. The 233S selection has been very sparse since last summer in my area.

So its an order. I expect 8 weeks.

Thanks.

I've been reading about OMI and we would have loved to do it, but I've got a race and camping reservations at Peninsula State Park in Door County WI that weekend.

Thanks All!

Its been awhile since I bought new (two trailers ago and last trailer was used from a family member) and I was a little rusty. My intentions with detailing out the negotiation process was to give other campers some ideas or information for their own negotiations.

On another note..my son turns 10 soon and he is getting a new Specialized Hard Rock Disc Sport mountain bike next week. It is killing me not to give it to him like yesterday....

Thanks Bob.

Happy birthday to your son. That's a great age. He'll love that Specialized.

My DD turned 9 last week and she got a new Trek skye. This is more of a road bike setup for her. Lots of fun.

By the way Bob. You figure out how you're going to haul all your bikes while camping with your Roo, yet?

I'm still working on it...
