WOW - Easy way to remove water filter

I"ve read several ways but this has got to be the easiest and cheapest way. A 1/2 inch threaded pvc coupler. That's all u need and it costs less than a $1.

Removing the the "In Camper" filter is a popular debate on the forum. Here's some reasons why -

1. The filters are expensive
2. The bowel design is flawed and several have reported it coming off and flooding their camper

The alternative that I plan on using is a inline hose filter that can be bought at Walmart. You could also use this on the hose when you fill your fw tank

I went 20 years w/o one of these filters. I'm pretty sure that they're just another reason to charge me more for a TT.

The Water Pur filters are pricey - a good carbon filter runs about $10.

How so? Our bowl has been off/on numerous times and we're not detecting any issues that would be prompting us to remove the assy.

Indeed, but with the OP's new arrangement, water coming from the FW tank is no longer filtered.

I agree with Rockfordroo. Been camping since 1970, 10 tt's and only one had a filter. I am not overly paranoid about not having one. If one is there, that's nice.

The only reason I can see for the onboard filter might be to keep from running dirt and grit through the pump. I believe they are just paper so probably doesn't do anything for bacteria or taste. A carbon filter is a good idea for making the water taste and smell better.

The (Factory Filter) is Downstream of the F/W pump,so has no input on filtering before Pump. Youroo!!

Please forgive me if this sounds like a stupid question, a newbie here. Does the water that comes through the water hose into the trailer go through the filter or is the filter for the water in the holding tank? I personally like the idea of the water filter because of the chemicals and "bugs" that are in our water. What causes the filter to leak water all over the floor? Also we just got our Roo a day ago and we are still exploring. I haven't found the filter yet. Where is it? We have a 23IKSS. Thank you all for your help.

I don't know how we survived by drinking out of the old water hose when we were kids.
All those years of tent camping and backpacking we never had a filter. I will say though that the DW makes us take bottled water for "human" consumption though.
Best water I ever drank was from a running stream while backpacking.

I'm not a big fan of the filter being inside my camper, either, but it hasn't leaked or anything (and the Mrs. wants to keep it) but the second it has problems leaking it will be gone like a soldier in the Civil War, bang bang!!

Internal filter filters incoming fresh water and fw tank as well.

Filter is located same place as water pump.

The filter canister most are talking about leaking are the new style 1/4 turn models.

I have used the on board filter since 2002 with now issues in three campers.

Great comments on reasons why or why not to remove the filter. The reason for starting the thread was to share how I did it with those that are interested in removing it.

Purchasing pex tubing and crimping tools, using shark bite fitting that people are concerned might leak later are some of the ways I was reading here on the forum.

Forget all that mess and purchase a 51 cent threaded pvc coupling.

I have the 23IKSS model as well. The water filter and canister is located behind the rear storage door between the water heater and the water pump. They placed a small thin particle board that sits in front of the water filter so you won't be able to see it without removing or flexing the board. The filter was difficult to install so I had the dealer do it.

I removed mine and replaced with a 4 inch piece of threaded pvc pipe I bought at local hardware store. Just about wrecked everything trying to unscrew the canister so I got rid of it. This took 5 minutes to replace. We always bring drinking water from home anyway, so don't miss it.
