Given the chance.............
Would you do it over again? Joining the military that is.
Me? Wouldn't change a thing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in service. And I believe that all Americans should serve this great nation in some capacity or another (not necessarily military as not everyone is cut out for it) for a minimum of 4 years. It would give them a greater appreciation of what we have here in the United States of America.

I signed up when I was 17 and don't know anything else. Wouldn't change nuthin'. Almost 25 years later, I still enjoy the military lifestyle. I like the good order and discipline part of it and really enjoy the comradere <?SP>. Getting changed out of my uniform now to go drink with the boys (and gals) at the bar. TDY has its benefits
I'm getting out next year and I am terrified. I know I can get a job, I know I will succeed, I hope I can still make a difference.

getting a job after retirement is the easy part, getting real world self value and asking for it at the interview is ... well difficult
i found after my few jobs and then my last one, i added 10k to their offer and then we both felt equally rewarded
it seems in the world of post service contractors they like to get you cheap and then bill you out HIGH like 3:1 really.
and asking for a higher base vacation rate is ok, youd be surpirsed at how easy they will up it based on your time in service

I love the military. I've dedicated my life to supporting the US Military. I work for the Dept. of Defense, USAF, side by side with the GI's everyday.
The GI's on my crew take orders from this civilian!
I owe my livelyhood to the Military...and I try to pay them back through my work effort everyday.
Thanks Uncle Sam!

I have few regrets about how my life has turned out, but the biggest is I allowed my whiney, non-supportive semi-disfunctional parents to talk me out of serving in the Air Force.
It seems the more the world changes for the worse, the more I regret having turned down the chance to make it better.
Thanks, guys, for filling in the gap.

Yep - joining the USMC was one of the smarter things I've done in life.
Semper Fi --- regardless of what service you were in!

Did 8 1/2 yrs and to and would do it again. Artillery is a big BANG and is the King of all battles. My only beef is that I served during the Cold War era and my time dosen't count for much of anything except that I am very proud to have served. Once a redleg always a redleg.

Definitely would do it over again. Spent just under 20 years riding submarines before a series of blood clots sidelined my career. Would have stayed in for 30, instead retired at 20.

Greatest thing I ever did. 21 years I could not have had a better job than EOD.

K9 is a pretty good job. We find the bombs and call you to blow them up. We get to stand back and watch the cloud of smoke from a distance.

Would I do it over again? Absolutely! I joined the Air Force the week I turned 17, and stayed for 22 years. I'm now getting ready for my second retirement, from Civil Service. I look at my time in the Air Force as a calling. This civil service job is just that - a job. (Don't get me wrong. I'm not slighting civil service at all, but to me it just never evoked the same feeling. I felt a renewed sense of pride every single day that I put that uniform on. I just don't get that in civil service).

I'd do it again, just a bit differently. I would have not been married to my 1st gold digger when I did it. I would have waited much longer and pursued a few more dreams I had.

Absolutely!!!
21 years in the AF and now 10 years later I still miss it and would go back in a heartbeat. A few, ah lets just say, un-informed Commanders in Chief almost made me quit, but taking care of my troops became more important. I joined to do my duty and see the world. Thought that I'd be 1 and done, but it didn't happen. I really enjoyed it and even moving 7 times became an adventure. I think everyone ought to pull at least a 2 year hitch. We'd end up with a lot fewer whiney p-holes me thinks. Toward the end I must admit I was getting tired of the "me" generation of recruits. Nothing these 'ol brogans couldn't fix . Hats off to all who served and those who supported us!

I have never regretted serving 4 years in the Air Force. I was one of the first female jet engine Mechanics; served for the ATC Command in Columbus Ms. Our mission was training pilots.
Loved it and as a result I do know my way around some tools (and beeswax for sure!)

I would have joined if I had to do it again. I really regret not joining up when after high school.

If I was 18 again and the times were back during the cold war I would not change a thing still go in and serve my time. I did 20 and out. Benn out 15 years and I am sorry but somebody else said it, the whiny military we have today and the police actions would only mean I would be in trouble alot ( was trained by Viet Nam vets). Don't regret it just don't think I could make it in todays military.
