Home Depot NOT giving Military 10% off on All Purchase.

FYI
Home Depot NOT giving Military 10% off on All Purchase.
I was just at Home Depot and purchased some plastic storage containers that wer eon sale for $9.97 and a few other items.
Got to the front and the toatal was about $75 but only saw a $1 discount for military....
I asked if this was a mistake. She said no. Anything on sale you do not get the 10% off now.
This is the first time I saw this. Anyone else want totest your Home Depot Store and buy an item on sale to sdee what happens?
I do not believe Lowes does this.
Maybe its time to go back and use Lowes.

Haven’t been lately but won’t be doing Lowe’s. Ohio puts stamp on license if you want when you show proof of ex military etc.

Showed that at Lowe’s in Ohio and they said, no good. Have to bring paperwork to service desk and sign up. Guess the state verification does not count.

Will see what I get on sale item at Home Depot - where the stamp on my license is enough to get the discount.

I figure it is so they can sell the information and make back more that the 10% discount they give. Could be mistaken but don’t need any more sales calls or junk mail. [emoji3]

At Lowes you have to register on line or I believe at the service desk. After registering all you have to do is give them your phone number and you automatically get your discount. At Home Depot I show them my VA ID card if they hassle you ask for the manager. No discount on sale items is bs

My daughter cashiers at our local Home Depot and says she can spot an old veteran right off and gives them their 10% discount. Between me and her grandpa she has a pretty good sense of the old fellers.

It's nice that Home Depot and Lowes give us the military discount, but they don't have to. I'm grateful for the discount when I get it. But I'm certainly not going to throw a fit when I don't get a discount on a sale item. As someone mentioned, to get the Lowes discount either sign up on line or at customer service. It's a three minute process. I was told too many people were asking for the military discount that didn't qualify. This was their way of weeding them out. Again, not something to throw a fit about. The "V" on my license is sufficient for the State of Florida. It should be sufficient for a store. I had to produce proof of my veteran status in the form of a DD214 to get the "V". As for cheating their system, a license is legal PHOTO id. Anyone can get and use my phone number. No too many people would even want to use my face.

Zowie. Be grateful they give a military discount at all.

No discount for sale items seems perfectly plausible to me.

A few minutes of verification has to be expected, why should they take your word for it? Not everybody is honest.

Enough folks trying to take undo advantage and complaining about a benefit they don't have to provide could cause them to pull the program all together.

Exactly... It is usually the reason places do away with things. People forget the reason they give the discount, to support and honor those who served.. A few people make a stink beciaw it becomes an "entitlement" then is gone..

3X

We should be thanking them for their courtesy.

If anyone is a skier, take a look at Vail’s Epic Pass this year for $99.00. It was the home of the 10th Mountain Division.

There’s a lot of people in this world doing a lot of good things for their communities who are not, and never have been, in the military (or emergency services) and they don’t get any recognition for their service to the community.

Home Depot NOT giving Military 10% off on All Purchase.

If you have a my Lowes card, once you register online or at service desk, it will automatically give you the discount, when you have your my Lowes card scanned. Lowes does not give it on clearance items, but do on sale.

I remember a few years ago Home Depot and Lowes only gave the discount on major holidays any other time it was a no unless you were a disabled vet.

I think the current way is very good and equitable. I had one employee say that vets get more discount then they do.

I just know it was an honor to serve and if a business sees fit to give me a discount but has stipulations I will be thankful and appreciate their recognition.

10% pretty much covers sales tax.

Don't know if HD changed there policy but they only gave military discounts to active military, retired military or disabled military. That is one reason I stopped going to HD and go across the street to Lowes where all military get discount every day. And yes Lowes has you sign up either on line or at service desk get lowes card and when you use it it tells the cleck to say thanks for your service. Later RJD

Another vote for the MyLowes card. You get the card at the register, go online and set up your account. It will take a few minutes to verify your military service, but once verified, you just scan the card at the register, and the 10% comes off. And the receipt always says "Thank you for your service"

The other nice features are that it saves your purchases in there, so you dont have to worry about a receipt if you need to return something. You can use the app in the store to help find the products you are seeking (store specific), and if you cant find a price for an item, you can scan the bar cose with your phone and it tells you the price. It also has a store finder feature if you are traveling and dont that area well. We have both Lowes and HD next to each other, literally, and almost never go to HD anymore because of the MyLowes card.

The reason Lowe's tied the discount to the MyLowe's card, is some stores weren't honoring the discount. Now, it is automatic and the computer takes it off, whether the manager wants to do it or not.

I haven't tried it yet, but since it's tied to your My Lowes card, I'm guessing it would get applied when you do the self checkout. Can anyone confirm that?

Unhappy

You do not need a My Lowes card. If you register online or at the service desk. When checking out the the cashier for a military discount and give them your phone number and you get the discount. A couple of times I have received a verterans only sale item.

As a retired combat vet of 36 years, try going to Menard's for a discount - no go, no matter what. I prefer Lowes over Home Depot anyway. I've seen too many at Home Depot just ask for it and get it, too many dishonest people that ruin it for all of us. Lowes is doing the right thing with verification.
