Veterans Day is for the living.
Memorial Day is for the fallen.
Pet Peeve: Someone thinking they are being kind saying, "Happy Memorial Day" is like like telling your niece "Happy Sue Ann's Funeral Day" on the anniversary of her mother, Sue Ann's, death.

Special bond among us military veterans. God bless all those who served honorably. When I served in the Army Security Agency from 1967-70, it was always "Duty, Honor, Country."

MOS: 05H20 - High Speed Morse Intercept

Basic: Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
MOS Training: Ft. Devens, Ma.
Overseas: Ft. Clayton, Canal Zone, Panama (1968)
Bien Hoa, Vietnam (1969)

Any former "ditty boppers" out there? Would love to hear from you.

Actually angers me when I see the phrase “Happy Memorial Day”.

It saddens me because many Americans don’t know the real reason for the Memorial Day holiday.

Google "Why is flag the flag at half mast until noon on Memorial Day?".

In short, the morning is dedicated to the deceased. The flag is then raised to full staff at noon in honor of the living.

See my previous post so you are not so angry. Nothing wrong with Happy Memorial Day. It is a day of celebration.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men (and women) who died. Rather we should thank God that such men (and women) lived." - George Patton.

1989-1994 USMC. Out as an E-4. Days I wish I had stayed in until retirement. Hind sight.

I did six in the Corps and got out. No regrets. By then I was married and had no interest in raising kids as milbrats. What I did do was join the Guard (no USMC Reserve back home back then). I did almost 26 years in the Guard, most as a C-130 loadmaster. I got to go to about 45 countries as a loadmaster. My most memorable trip was to Iwo Jima and getting to go to the top of Mount Suribachi. I took this picture in June 2006.
