13A by trade, several involuntary desert vacations, lots of TDY and CONUS deployments, many good times, many bad times.
I was there 79-80. We stayed in fiberglass stacked portable barracks. Heat was from a coal oil furnace and sometimes we ran out in the middle of the night.

Cooling was a thru the wall fan that sounds like they took it off a C130. Summertime when the houseboys had their kimchi at lunch was unbearable

US Navy - 91-99. Aviation Electrician's Mate. Worked on and flew in S-3, P-3, and H-60 aircraft. Spent deployments on USS Kitty Hawk and USS Nimitz. Sadly, the Kitty Hawk is currently under the recycler's torch in Brownsville.

Navy Veteran here, thank you all for your service!

For all those Vet's out there that didn't know, the VA Canteen has special deals on tires from goodyear. I picked up 4 goodyear endurance tires for my travel trailer for 100 bucks each in 2022. This offer is open to all veterans.

Kurt, thanks for posting that. I am a veteran, but not retired. Two years, two days service, two years "active" reserve, two years inactive reserve, honorable discharge on my DD214, 50 years ago. Other than VA Education benefit and a VA mortgage, I has assumed until a year ago that all the other benefits were available to only retired military or those with a service-connected disability.

It's great to know about this benefit.

The other day Home Depot was having a white goods sale and advertised that I could get better prices by buying from them through https://myecp.com. But when I visited the site, it looked like they wanted me to get another credit card. Do you know if this site is legitimate?

Thank you for your service!

As far as if its legitimate, yes, it definitely is and its pretty common for active personnel and their family members to have and use on the base PX. I wasn't aware that the program was open to veterans but when I read the fine print it appears to be open to all honorably discharged veterans.

207X1 - Morse Systems something or other. It changed so much, and I don't even think exists anymore anyway. Retired MSgt/E7 in 2000 after 20 years, 3 months, and some days. I spent 5 1/2 years airborne, and 2 years out of the career field as a Comm Center technician. I went to Japan, Omaha, Alaska, Omaha again, Hawaii, then Texas where I retired. I don't regret any of my career, but at 20 years, it was time to go. And I don't regret that decision. I just retired again, for the last time, back in 2022 after 22 years of Information Technology Security. Another decision I most definitely do not regret.

Hi Larry,

I went ahead and signed up for the credit card which is for use on base or for online purchases through the NEX website. I read using the card will get you additional discount when using it at the Home Depot @ NEX for major appliances. FYI it's the same credit card I had while I was active duty in the Navy. I'm needing a new water heater, so I'll be testing it out in the next couple months.
