I respect your opinion. Keep us informed of any progress you might make in this matter.

As I said before way back there that each base is different and it is up to the Base Commander to approve. I guess that because of the burial of a service person in a Military Cemetery. They had the space or made it for them. Again I will say that the MWR has no problem filling spaces and far as these are old trailer parks that B47 said is completely wrong, Look at Military camp ground sites and all the improvements they are doing to them. There are no private mobile home sites that they bought up to build these parks. It is space they cut out for the use. I have been to plenty from Virginia to California. I just enjoy reliving my past and the being proud of just being a USA citizen. There has been great changes since 1968 and now. If it was like this on a base period in 1968 I guess I would have wanted to be lifefer. I'm just amazed how much things have changed. I eat at a mess hall with white table cloths and waiters. Wasn't like that in 1968. Also the food was really good.

Ah - B47 never said anything such as "...these are old trailer parks..."

Yeah- things change. They are not called "mess hall" or "chow hall" anymore. I don't think recruits pull KP anymore either like I did in Basic AF training in 1960.

Correcto B47! They are called "Dining Facilities" now (DFAC) The chow...err Cuisine <G> is better than most civilian resturants!
Still have Military cooks (Army, AF & of course Navy) but most of the scut work is done by civilian contractors.

It was like that in Ft. Dix when I was there, before that in FT. Knox KP was what you did about once a month unless you messed up.

No problem - I'm surprised this thread has gone on for as long as it has.

Off topic a little, but if anyone is near the Lake of Ozarks and eligible check out LORA (can be googled). It is off the beaten path but also has log cabins, boat and jet ski rentals and general store.
And yes, I (retired military) can pay for a guest.
