Rates and eligibility are set by the base MWR office and the base command council and published as base regulations. As such the policies vary by base.
US Military Campground web site is most likely your best single source for all of that.

I am retired military and always stay at Military RV parks when available. Highest I have paid is $25.00 and the facilities have been clean and safe. I will continue to use those facilities and hopefully what I pay will be of use to MWR's that provide services to our active duty military. Small price to pay!
DAV should be free or much reduced.

Military campgrounds
We have stayed at a couple military campgrounds with the charges about $10 or so cheaper. I use two aps and they both. Work pretty good
1. Allstays C-RV Military (my favorate) 2. Ultimate Mil-CG.
I AM RETIRED USAF. Keep in mind some military campgrounds don't have sewer hookups and some don't accept reservations. That is 2 questions worth asking.

Patrons that haven’t visited more than a hand full of our military campgrounds shouldn’t judge all by the conditions of a few.
This is just a glimpse of some of the ones we have visited.
For those that are veterans without access to these places there are others, such as the American Legion RV Park at post 137 in Jacksonville, FL. Proof of service is all that is needed to stay there.

Don't take this the wrong way but I am always impressed when someone who is 100% DAV can RV with a travel trailer. I was blessed to have retired with 0% and in good shape and this is hard work especially in the hot summer months. Now if you have good help setting up and breaking down camp that is a different story. Anyway, to everyone thank you for your service.

Well for me after more than a dozen years active duty, a little argument with a scud missile, multiple tours in combat, being an old school STRAF MP who actually experienced dozens of deaths on the job it finally ate me up.
I can set up my TT in less than 10 minutes (mine is an Ice House so it sets on the ground)
Anyway after 3 suicide attempts myself I got the PTSD treatment I needed. It took me about 3 times attending various VA programs the last one after I broke my own neck.
I advocate for other vets to the best of my ability. I was living in my car for years as I prefer not to be around civilians. I am also retired from the US Dept of Justice.
So I am unsure what your post was supposed to mean.
But I figured I would share my story with you. It is the dreams that kick my ass. Both stateside murders, car accidents, seing my troops blown up etc.
In the early days we vets were taught not to speak of our weakness. Well after multiple self life attempts I learned to speak of such or I would be dead.

As a retired Air Force, I always stay at military campgrounds when they are nearby where I plan on staying. I like the association with other military members and I don't remember paying more than $25 a night at any location I've stayed. Campgrounds vary in quality everywhere but I find FAMCAMPS are generally in good condition and clean. I particularly like FE Warren (Cheyenne WY), Ellsworth (outside of Rapid City ND) and the Air Force Academy. The Navy FAMCAMP in Monterrey CA was probably the most expensive but under $30 per night but was near everything I wanted to see. I met some really nice retired military people there.

Referred to is just a form of mistaken identity. What does Fort Hood call it in their publications or on their MWR links? (Travel Camp)!

I'd like to debate this. I was preloaded on the USS WASP for a Med float. Everytime the aircraft (I think that's what they called the LCACs) left the ship, We had to sit in the HMMWV.
When I was on the USS Bellow Wood, with LCU's we could sit on top of the vehicles and not get soaked...

What year did you float on Wasp? I floated with Wasp ARG in 2004. We had 22 MEU if I recall.

Never been shot at going ashore. But if that was t9 happen, on an LCU, we could open the .50s or MK19s. No can do on LCAC. No return fire on those.

26th MEU in '98
Hated that ship! The Navy hated the Marines. The best ship I was on was the San Bernardino, an old LST. The sailors on there treated us well.

I deployed with 26 last year on Kearsarge. Funny how much different the personalities can be between ships. Being embarked and not ships company, we occupy green spaces, berthings, etc. We have to get along with the Marines...lol
